Not one but two dry-ice blasts at Disneyland

  Disneyland employee/soft drink vendor, 22-year-old Christian Barnes, reportedly pleaded not guilty to possessing a destructive device in a public place. Barnes was arraigned in Orange County Superior Court yesterday and is due back in court next Friday, June 7, for a pretrial hearing. During the court proceeding on Thursday prosecutors revealed, Barnes is the suspect in not one but two  dry-ice explosions in the Anaheim theme park near the Toontown attraction last Tuesday. Internet star cat gets movie deal

Is this the face of a movie star? Well, some Hollywood producers think so. Grumpy Cat, as she is known, has landed a movie deal for a Garfield-like flick, according to Deadline. Grumpy Cat, who’s real name is Tartar Sauce, is an Internet star. The feline has more than 900,000 likes on her Facebook page. Employee arrested in Disneyland explosion

  A Disney employee reportedly is being held on a $1 million dollars bail today in connection with that dry-ice explosion near Mickey’s Toontown attraction, in the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim late yesterday. The dry-ice was apparently inside a bottle, which was tossed into a trash can. The blast was described as being small — no damages nor injuries. Entertainment Bits: “Fast & Furious 6,” Rick Springfield sells a novel, and NBC’s relief concert for tornado victims

Box office bonanza “Fast & Furious 6 ” burned rubber all over the competition Memorial Day weekend. Not a whole lot of new moves in this sequel, but moviegoers did not care. They love this franchise. “Fast &  Furious 6”  took in $120 million for its debut in the U.S. The top six films helped generate more than $300 million at the domestic box office, beating the previous record for a Memorial Day weekend. Carrie Underwood donates $1 million for victims of tornadoes and other disasters

The damage estimate for a series of deadly tornadoes that barreled through the central part of the U.S. over the past few days is somewhere between $2 and $5 billion, according to a CNN report. “Star Trek Into Darkness” opened in the number one spot last weekend and has made a ton of money at the box office. The sci-fi flick will rack up millions more during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend. Yet, the sequel to “Star Trek” (2009) has disappointed.   UPDATED 9:43 a.m.: Wednesday, May 22, 2013 A band of thunderstorms is moving through the southern states of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi headed east today. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds and hail in parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi yesterday. The day before, Monday, the powerful weather system sent a deadly tornado plowing through Moore, Oklahoma, leaving a 17 mile trail of destruction. Southwest Airlines scores high in new study

When it comes to customer satisfaction, Southwest Airlines is flying high. The airlines, a frequent flyer out of  Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport, ranked second only to JetBlue  Airways for low cost carriers in the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2013 North America Airline Satisfaction study. Out of a total points of 1,000, JetBlue led the list of low-cost carriers with 787, followed by Southwest with 770 points. Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $190 million!

I may have to break down and buy a Mega Millions lottery ticket. The jackpot could soon crack the $200 million barrier. No big winner in last night’s draw prompted more money to be pumped into the jackpot — which now stands at $190 million. Here are Tuesday’s lucky numbers: 6, 10, 12, 28, 32, and the Mega Ball 38. The next draw is Friday, May 17.

UPDATED: 4:00 p.m. — Whew! It’s now 102 in the Media City. UPDATED: 3:07 p.m. — We’re baking in Burbank. The high is 99 degrees! You know it’s going to be really hot in B-town when the temperature hits 80 before 9 a.m. Yup! That’s the case on this Mother’s Day here in the Media City. The forecast is for a high above 90. Super hugs to all the moms on this super hot day.

A broken reclaimed water hydrant, on California Street near the Verdugo Recreation Center, spewed gallons of water into the air this morning  at around 9 :45 a m. The geyser flooded some areas of the street and produced an incredible tower of water, which appeared to shot right up into the rain clouds. A Burbank Water and Power crew quickly arrived on the scene. The workmen repaired the damaged purple hydrant. One of them told me the damage occurred when a motorist backed into hydrant.

 Updated 12:30 p.m.: That light rain turned into some pretty heavy downpours in Burbank this morning. In fact, this Southland storm is packing a bigger punch than expected with cloudy skies, wind, and rain expected to continue throughout the day and tonight, possible tomorrow as well. We need the rain — so bring it on!   Rain rolled into the Southland last night and is expected to hang around at least through today. The showers are light.
