Strong winds howling through Burbank

Strong cold winds are howling through Burbank right now. A wind advisory is in effect for Los Angeles County for 15-to-25 MPH winds with some gusts up to 50 MPH until tomorrow morning at  6.a.m. Burbank is definitely being wind-whipped this afternoon.  The temperature is dropping as well. The high today only in the low 60s — tonight, it will get down into the mid-40s. Yeah, it feels like winter again.

Ground breaking for new Burbank hotel

Burbank is one step closer to getting a new hotel. Yesterday, a ceremonial ground breaking was held for the $40 million SpringHill Suites by Marriott on San Fernando Boulevard between Providencia and Santa Anita Streets adjacent to Downtown Burbank. Executives from R.D. We got a little sun this morning in Burbank — but the clouds rolled back in and are expected to hang around the rest of the day and evening. Also, there’s a 25 percent chance of rain. Entertainer and New Jersey native, Queen Latifah, is going to sing “America The Beautiful” during the pregame festivities for Sunday’s Super Bowl. The NFL and Fox Network made the announcement in a news release yesterday. The French helmet-wearing duo, Daft Punk, are probably feeling pretty lucky today and for good reason. They walked away with some the biggest awards at the Grammys last night, including, Record of the Year for “Get Lucky,” Album of the Year for “Random Access Memories,” and for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Burbank Police investigating an attempted murder

A 22-year-old man is being held in the Burbank City Jail today after being arrested for attempted murder . Burbank Police respond to an emergency call of an assault in the 16oo block of West Alameda Avenue last night at around 7:30 p.m.  They found a male victim, on the sidewalk, with severe injuries to the upper body and head described as “…  apparent stab wounds and blunt force trauma,” in a BPD news release. The race for Oscars is turning into a real, ah, horse race. Last night at the DGA Awards, “Gravity” took away the top honor — Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film. While waiting for that next role, “Dexter” star, Michael C. Hall, is joining a number of other celebrities in wheeling and dealing in the hot real estate market. Entertainers, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, have a new project together. The happily married twosome have signed on with Scholastic to published a children’s picture book, “Roc and Roe’s Twelve Days of Christmas,” featuring the couple’s twins Roc (Moroccan) and Roe (Monroe). “We are so excited to work with the Scholastic team on our Roc and Roe picture book and we can’t wait until this holiday season!” said Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey said in a news release. Murder charge filed against Burbank suspect

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has file one count of murder against a Burbank man in connection with the death of his mother. Moises Diaz was arrested last Monday, following the discovery of the body of  77 year-old Maria Diaz in an alley in the 4000 block of West Victory Boulevard. Diaz, 40, is being held on $1, 000,000 bail. A 40 year-old Burbank man is being held on $1, 000, 000 bail today, on suspicion of murdering his mother. Yesterday morning at around 10:40, police were called to the 4000 block of West Victory Boulevard, following a report of a person sleeping in an alley. New comic — Disney Kingdoms: “Seekers of The Weird”

Disney branched out into the comic book world this month with the debut of its own comic brand, Disney Kingdoms.
