It’s not a record breaker, but a sizable jackpot is up for grabs in tomorrow’s Mega Millions draw. The money pot for that lottery game is at $65 million. No one hit the double-M jackpot in last Tuesday’s draw. Those winning numbers: 1, 16, 24, 32, 48, and the Mega Ball 2.

The next draw is Friday, April 20 at 7:45 p.m.

Get ready for some spring sizzle — as in some very warm temps. The high is expected to be around 80 today, but by Saturday it could hit 95 in B-town! So break out the sunglasses, flip flops, and shorts. Time to groove in the sunshine.

Jean Youn: A bowl of spring

Guest Blogger

A plate or a bowl where food is put is called as a “Geu-reut” in Korean.

“Geu-reut” has a variety of names.

bowl of rice clipart

For example, we call it as “Bab (steamed rice) Geu-reut” if a bowl contains steamed rice which is the main staple for Koreans. If it holds soup (“Kook” in Korean), it is called as “Kook-Geu-reut.” Likewise, if bread (“Bbang” in Korean) is on it, it is called as “Bbang Geu-reut.” And If spaghetti is on it, it becomes as “Spaghetti Geu-reut.”

In other words, the name of “Geu-reut” is used not by itself, but with the things which are put in/on it.

I think that human mind is much the same.

Everybody has a mind. However, depending upon what is held in it, its name will be different.

It would be a lot more pleasant to experience the minds of others filled with love, challenge, hope, and gentleness than those with hatred, renunciation, despair, and anxiety.

Clothes may be the same. Don’t you think so?

The same clothes may look different according to the ways they are worn.

I plan to spend this week with my mind trying to fill my precious customers’ clothes with spring splendor.

I wish that you will have a week with a “Geu-reut” which is overflowing with wonderful spring air.

Art lovers and the curious were drawn to a blocked-off section of San Fernando Boulevard, between Olive Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard, for the biannual Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival, yesterday. The two-day event wraps up today at 5 p.m. I dropped by and was impressed with the number of talented artists who displayed their work and took time to chat with festival visitors.

Veteran street painter, Theresa Knopf Morgan, began her creation at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. It was after 1 p.m. when I took the above photo. Morgan says she loves “bold color” and begins with a sketch then fills in the image using “… chalk and soft pastels.”

Artist Beth Ashley is a Southland native, but she has been inspired greatly by her six year stay in Colombia,  South America. Ashley has been painting for 15 years and specializes in capturing the details and artistry of windows and doors. For an entertainment look at her work, check out Ashley’s website.

Get ready for the big Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival

Fronnie Lewis
April 12th, 2012

Final preparations are underway for the Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival this weekend, which is going to be huge! Nearly 100 artists and street painters are scheduled to show-off their best between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 14 and 15, along a four block stretch of San Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue in downtown. More than 25,000 people are expected to attend. The event is free and open to the public.

Artists will be displaying thousands of paintings, sculptures, and photographs as well as handmade jewelry, fine glass, ceramics, and woodwork. Also, featured will be eight of Southern California’s most talented street painters who, “bring art to life on on asphalt and concrete.”  The way it works is the street artist creates “… ”…visual art on paved urban surfaces using non-permanent materials such as chalk and soft pastels. Sometimes called Madonarii, it is an art form dating to the Italian Renaissance when itinerant artists often created images of the Madonna. Today’s street painters treat a variety of subjects, from classical paintings to abstract art and their own creations,” according to a press release from the Downtown Burbank Partnership.

This is a biannual event put on by the Downtown Burbank Partnership, a nonprofit corporation that manages the downtown area, and the West Coast Artists. For more information, click over to the Downtown Burbank Partnership website.

Rain rolling through the Southland today. A downpour hammered Burbank around 7 this morning. Showers are predicted for the Media City through mid-day with more heavy rain possible. Partly cloudy skies expected this afternoon — but showers remain in the forecast through Friday. The high near 60 in B-town today. It will be windy at times as well. Hold tight to that umbrella and be careful out there.

President Obama was prompted to drop to the court and do some push ups, after a member of the famous Harlem Globetrotters made a hoop shot at the 134th annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House yesterday. It was part of a “Shoot for Strength” game where kids were encouraged to do push ups every time one of the Globetrotting pros made a basket. The president showed he was game — by doing some of the push ups.

More than 30, 000 people from 50 states reportedly attended the event on the south lawn of the White House. The theme was, “Let’s Go, Let’s Play, Let’s Move,” and the activities included tennis, yoga, a dance party, and cooking demonstrations as well as basketball.

Easter and Passover greetings from President Obama

Fronnie Lewis
April 7th, 2012

Easter and Passover clip art

Remarks of President Barack Obama
Weekly Address
The White House
April 7, 2012

For millions of Americans, this weekend is a time to celebrate redemption at God’s hand.  Tonight, Jews will gather for a second Seder, where they will retell the story of the Exodus.  And tomorrow, my family will join Christians around the world as we thank God for the all-important gift of grace through the resurrection of His son, and experience the wonder of Easter morning.

These holidays have their roots in miracles that took place thousands of years ago.  They connect us to our past and give us strength as we face the future.  And they remind us of the common thread of humanity that connects us all.

For me, and for countless other Christians, Easter weekend is a time to reflect and rejoice.  Yesterday, many of us took a few quiet moments to try and fathom the tremendous sacrifice Jesus made for all of us.Tomorrow, we will celebrate the resurrection of a savior who died so that we might live.

And throughout these sacred days, we recommit ourselves to following His example.  We rededicate our time on Earth to selflessness, and to loving our neighbors.  We remind ourselves that no matter who we are, or how much we achieve, we each stand humbled before an almighty God.

Christ’s triumph over death holds special meaning for Christians.  But all of us, no matter how or whether we believe, can identify with elements of His story.  The triumph of hope over despair.  Of faith over doubt. The notion that there is something out there that is bigger than ourselves.

These beliefs help unite Americans of all faiths and backgrounds.  They shape our values and guide our work.  They put our lives in perspective.

So to all Christians celebrating the Resurrection with us, Michelle and I want to wish you a blessed and Happy Easter.  And to all Americans, I hope you have a weekend filled with joy and reflection, focused on the things that matter most.  God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.

Females and motorcycles: Hot topic on website

Fronnie Lewis
April 5th, 2012

Photo female rider on a Harley Davidson motorcycle

A website set up by Harley-Davidson is breaking down that stereotype about motorcycle riders. Not all are men. Some are hard riding, fun loving women. There are inspirational stories by women about why they ride on the site. Photos as well.

“Women who ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles – and those who are passionate about learning – have amazing stories of empowerment to share,” said Amanda Lee, Manager of Public Relations Outreach for Harley-Davidson, in a PRnewswire release.

They’re also looking for more stories from females who love to ride and those looking to learn. For more check out the Buzz Wall at Harley-davidson.com/voices .
