Southland gets drenched by another storm

Rain is falling in Burbank this morning as a serious storm moves through the Southland today. Already the burn areas in the nearby foothills have received 1-2 inches of rain and that has caused mud and debris to start to flow. Around 243 homes in the risky areas of La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta were ordered evacuated and some roads closed by late yesterday as the storm approached. Despite the danger, some of those residents refused to leave and decided to stay hunkered down in their homes.
The first band of rain from the storm has pretty much rolled through, but another is headed our way with the potential to create some major problems. More on the evacuations and the road closures here.

How about the draconian measures slated to go into effect that require plumbing changes in commercial, industrial, etc.,etc to make Burbank “sustainable”?
How about the water rate increases?
Better yet, how about JESS & ANJE wanting to TAX water?

I have to agree those are some strange ideas in order to make Burbank quote sustainable. Burbank officials seem to disregard the weather when it doesn’t suit their established plans.
Well, it’s very bad p.r. to raise water rates in this tough recession and when we’re having a very wet season. Yeah, I know all that about high prices being charged the city for expensive water that comes from elswhere. Large commercial users instead of residents, should be slapped with the rate hikes to cover those additional fees.
However, if city officials want to seriously plan for the future — they should work on ways to store free water produced by the rains during the wet seasons — to be used during the dry season.
