A Burbank landmark, Frank’s Coffee Shop and Restaurant, 916 West Olive Avenue, is back in business, after falling on hard times and having to close its doors several weeks ago. Today during the pre-opening,  manager and former owner, Jose Lopez, and his staff were serving customers just like old times at Frank’s. One customer, chowing down on a hot turkey sandwich, told me the food was even” better than before!”

Frank’s first opened its doors back in the 1950s. It quickly gained a reputation as a friendly neighborhood eatery with great food and old school ambience. Over the years, Frank’s became a favorite location for television and movie production companies to film as well.

This is a victory for Jose Lopez, the new (old) manager, the employees who returned to their jobs and to everyone who gets that special tingle when they’re in a restaurant that’s older than they are — especially when the food it darned good.
Jose had been a chef at some of the area’s most memorable eateries, such as Pike’s Verdugo, Genio’s and Lakeside Country Club. It’s nice that a popular gathering place is open for gathering again.

CONGRATULATIONS JOSE!!!!!! WELCOME BACK!!!!!! I’m so very glad to hear you are back. This is wonderful.

FRANK’S is not only a landmark, it is an institution!! It is as much a part of Burbank as the Tonight Show (Johnny Carson and Jay Leno).

So excited to see Franks is opening back up. My partner and I moved to the area almost two years ago and just fell in love with the friendly service, hospitality, and AMAZING FOOD not soon after settling in. We are both elated to see Frank’s returning!!!! Can’t wait for my California omelet and eggs!!

I’m pleased to get another chance to go to my favorite coffee shop in burbank. I discovered it late and there’s a lot more on the menu I want to try. It’s a very comfortable place–my booth is in the photo–and I can check my email on their wifi. The friendly, attentive staff is a pleasure to this out-of-towner.

Congratulations Jose and welcome back! We missed you! Having grown up in Burbank, I am so happy to know that you are back with your smile, great food, reasonable prices. (My first job was at Security Bank in the 50s and the original owner was a customer of mine.) I phoned over 50 of Frank’s previous customers and all of those who answered my call are also very excited to have you back and said they would be coming in for your great service and food. My 98 year old Mom will be asking for her Chicken Picata dish. God Bless.

Well, now that Arturo knows what eggs Benedict is (thanks to Jose), it will be nice to take him back to Frank’s! It’s depressing to see a grown man cry. Welcome back Jose.
