  Burbank Walmart planning grand opening on June 22. The controversial Walmart Supercenter is nearly finished with a remodel that has taken more than a year. The old Great Indoors structure at 1301 North Victory Place in the Empire Center has been converted into several departments including grocery, general merchandise, sporting goods, apparel, and a pharmacy. More than 300 new associates have been hired. The long-awaited opening of the Burbank Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill is just a few weeks away. The extensive remodel of the old Elephant Bar Restaurant at 110 North First Street is nearly complete. Going out of business sales at Sports Authority stores expected to begin the middle of this week, just as the long Memorial Day weekend kicks off. Burbank Walmart hires more than 300 new associates

The new Burbank Walmart Supercenter is on track to open next month, according to store manager Panthi Patel. The world’s largest  retailer opened a hiring center a few weeks ago in Burbank. Patel estimates 350 associates have been hired for positions, from cashier to supervisor. In the past, Walmart has been criticized for low wages. During a phone interview today, Patel described the”incredible pay”at Walmart and how the company offers a “pathway to success.” He says “75 per cent of the promotions” are through the ranks and he feels Walmart... In the News: More money for millions of U.S. workers

Overtime pay for salaried workers: President Obama and the U.S. Labor Department announced the update of overtime regulations today. Hourly workers are guaranteed overtime. Now, thanks to the federal rule update, most white-collar employees making less than $47, 476 will be guaranteed overtime for working more than 40 hours a week. At least four million workers will be impacted, half of them women. Burbank jewelry store burglary rattles nerves in Mag Park

A burglary at 1928 Jewelry Boutique Outlet in Magnolia Park has rattled some nerves especially, among some of the local merchants. The break-in occurred at the fashion jewelry shop 3412 West Magnolia Boulevard last Monday, May 9. It happened “during the overnight/early morning hours,” explained Burbank Police spokesman, Sergeant Claudio Losacco in an email to Media City Groove. Suspect who allegedly targeted Burbank arrested

A serial burglary suspect who allegedly struck several times in Magnolia Park and Burbank Village sections of the Media City is behind bars tonight. Burbank Police announced late today the arrest of 28 year-old Hakob Torosyan of Glendale. Torosyan is being held without bail and is due to appear in a Burbank court Tuesday, March 15, on 14 counts of commercial burglary, according to a Burbank Police news release. Another series of break-ins, attempted break-ins, and burglaries has some merchants in Burbank concerned as they beef up security.
