The landmark 1950’s retro-style hotel, Safari Inn, caught at twilight by local photographer Dima Otvertchenko. The Safari Inn has some serious Hollywood credits. It has appeared in films such as “True Romance”(1993), “Apollo 13″(1995), and in numerous TV series like “CSI.” The Safari Inn is featured in a new photography project by Otvertchenko called, “Blue Hour Valley.” You can check out more of Otvertchenko’s talented photography online at https://www.instagram.com/bluehourvalley

Watching solar eclipse over Burbank

A bigger crowd than expected showed up at field #1 at George Izay Park to watch the historic solar eclipse on Monday, August 21. Hosted by the Joslyn Adult Center, the supply of eclipse viewing glasses went fast. Burbank City Council Member, Sharon Springer, was seen mingling in the gathering and offering to share her glasses. Photo Gallery: Will Rogers becomes Burbank mayor

Councilman Will Rogers moved up from vice-mayor to mayor today at the council reorganization meeting. Rogers was selected unanimously by his fellow council members. More coming up on this blog about the meeting at City Hall including comments by outgoing Councilman, Dr. David Gordon, who made it clear he was not going to fade away. Gordon’s comments probably sent chills up the spine of his critics, while giving supporters a reason to cheer. More than likely the selection of Rogers did the same.

The 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade is now one for the history books. Millions around the globe watched the 128th edition of that parade. Clouds, sunshine, and mild temperatures on this Labor Day.  Not the rocking, sunny, sizzling hot Labor Day we have come to expect in Burbank and the rest of the Southland. Smoke from Calabasas fire hangs over Burbank. The fire broke out late yesterday afternoon. There are reports of a speeding truck slamming into pole, knocking down power lines, in the 2300 block of Mulholland Highway and that may have sparked the fire. Have you noticed several utility boxes in Burbank have been turned into original art pieces? A call went out last summer for seven artists to showcase their talent on seven utility boxes under the theme, “Just Imagine.” Artist, Jennifer Turnbull, was selected to work her magic on the utility box on Beachwood Drive between Verdugo and Olive Avenues. Kensington Place today tweeted out the first official photos to be released of Prince George and new arrival Princess Charlotte. The very cute pictures reportedly were taken by their mother,  Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge ,in mid-May at Anmer Hall, the family home in Norfolk, England. As expected Burbank vice-mayor, Bob Frutos, got the votes from his colleagues to move into the mayor’s position. The vote was unanimous. Frutos, a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, was elected to city council in 2013 and will be serving as mayor for one year. Under threatening skies yesterday, Burbank on Parade paid tribute to Burbank as “City of the Wild Wild West.” Leading off this year’s parade “Gunfighters for Hire.” The performers were dressed for the period and packing their sidearms. Along the parade route, Keystone Street to Lomita Street on Olive Avenue, these hotheads would settle their disputes with a series of bang, bang, shoot’em ups. The parade spectators loved it! It was held in Woody’s Cafeteria on the Woodbury University campus and began around 7 p.m. When not on the panel, the candidates mingled, chatted with supporters, potential voters, and each other. Burbank float “Jungle Rescue” wins award in 2015 Rose Parade

Burbank Tournament of Roses Association has much to cheer about on this New Year’s Day. For the sixth straight year, the Burbank Rose Parade float has won an award. Burbank’s 2015  parade entry is “Jungle Rescue,” which pays homage to volunteer firefighters in an animated scene about a group of monkeys who fight to put out a fire in a bird house. “Jungle Rescue” won the Past Presidents’ trophy for most creative design and use of both floral and non-floral materials.
