The landmark 1950’s retro-style hotel, Safari Inn, caught at twilight by local photographer Dima Otvertchenko. The Safari Inn has some serious Hollywood credits. It has appeared in films such as “True Romance”(1993), “Apollo 13″(1995), and in numerous TV series like “CSI.” The Safari Inn is featured in a new photography project by Otvertchenko called, “Blue Hour Valley.” You can check out more of Otvertchenko’s talented photography online at https://www.instagram.com/bluehourvalley

A lot of folks are going on social media today to react to the death of Hollywood giant, Garry Marshall. The writer, director, producer, and actor passed away late yesterday at a hospital in Burbank. Marshall was 81. He’s being remembered today for his huge body of work; from television series like “Happy Days,” “The Odd Couple,” “Laverne and Shirley,” to movie hits “Pretty Woman” (1990)  and “The Princess Diaries”(2001). In the News: More money for millions of U.S. workers

Overtime pay for salaried workers: President Obama and the U.S. Labor Department announced the update of overtime regulations today. Hourly workers are guaranteed overtime. Now, thanks to the federal rule update, most white-collar employees making less than $47, 476 will be guaranteed overtime for working more than 40 hours a week. At least four million workers will be impacted, half of them women. Thousands turned out for Beyonce’s #WorldFormationTour at the Rose Bowl last night. In the sold-out crowd, celebrities Hilary Duff, Holly Robinson Peete, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Ashley Tisdale,  Kerry Washington, Octavia Spencer, along with mega-producer Shonda Rhimes and retired NBA star Kobe Bryant. I was not lucky enough to get a ticket. Pasadena Now reports that at one point tickets soared to $1,500 for some of the best seats. Kobe Bryant retires from the NBA

Number 24, Kobe Bryant, reminded everyone last night what kind of player he has been during his record-setting 20 seasons with the Lakers. During the past few months of his final season, it has seemed many times Bryant was limping into retirement — a shadow of the player he used to be. Bargain hunters were out bright and early in Burbank’s trendy Magnolia Park today. Around two hundred eager shoppers were lined up at Unique Vintage at 2013 West Magnolia Boulevard for its semi-annual “Pin up picnic sale,” where some items were up to 90 percent off! Missing Special Olympics athlete found safe

A Special Olympics athlete missing from USC since last Saturday, turned up in Hayward — more than 350 miles north in the East Bay today. Yesterday, photos of  Andi Gusmari  were splashed all over social media. This morning, Gusmari, 44, reportedly walked into the Hayward PD headquarters. He was described as “healthy,”but hungry. Gusmari speaks only Albanian and has a speech impediment. NBC dumps Donald Trump. The network released a statement saying it fired the Donald because of negative remarks he made about Mexicans, when he launched his presidential campaign earlier this month on Tuesday, June 16. Brian Williams out-Lester Holt to anchor “Nightly News”

NBC made it official today — Brian Williams is out and Lester Holt is in as permanent anchor of “Nightly News.” Holt has been the fill- in anchor on the newscast since last February — when a scandal broke over Williams’ habit of embellishing some of his reporting exploits. After his six month suspension ends in August, Williams will take a step down and  join MSNBC  “as anchor of breaking news and special reports,” according to a statement posted on the NBC website. Updated June 18, 2015: Apparently a side parking lot at the Empire Center did remain open for several hours last Tuesday night. Some shoppers and restaurant diners were lucky enough to find that lot and space to park their vehicles.  More details on Myburbank.   The anticipated flash mob car show and all that comes with it did not go down at Burbank’s Empire Center on Victory Place last night. Twitter shares soar on news of a surge in growth and profits

There’s a lot of tweeting going on these days. Twitter’s stock reportedly jumped  at least 30 percent today after it revealed better than expected second-quarter earnings. The chatty social network reported $312 million in revenue beating a forecast of $283 million in revenue. Also, Twitter delivered more good news about a surge in users.
