A spectacular evening of music and fashion is planned for the opening night gala of the Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra’s 24th concert season. Several Burbank Philharmonic musicians will be wearing gowns created for this special evening by the talented fashion designers at Woodbury University.  Soloist, Heidi Hatch, will be performing Glazunov's "Violin Concerto" and wearing one of the designer creations.   A Veterans Day ceremony is set to get underway at McCambridge Park in Burbank at the War Memorial -- the corner of Amherst Drive and San Fernando Boulevard. The patriotic ceremony to honor and thank those have served in our Armed Forces will feature the United States Navy, Burbank Community Band, St. Robert Bellarmine kindergarteners, and a flyover by the Condor Squadron. Family Promise of the Verdugos, a local nonprofit that assists homeless families, is holding a fundraiser called "Restore the Dream." Last April, the organization had to temporarily suspend services due to financial concerns. They have a goal of reopening the doors to needy families in early 2015. The first Armenian Genocide Centennial 100km tribute hike/cycle/ride kicks off on Thanksgiving Day. The event is in honor  the Armenians in the Turkish Empire who were forced to march to their death in World War 1. The tribute involves a hike 100km ( 62 miles ) for the 100 years, spread over four days,Thanksgiving Day through Sunday. Recycle Christmas trees in Burbank

Time to recycle those cut Christmas trees. By now most of those trees have lost their, ah, fresh look. You can drop your worn tree off at three Burbank parks; Verdugo Park at North California Street and West Verdugo Avenue, Ralph Foy Park in the parking lot on West Victory Boulevard, and McCambridge Park in the parking lot on Andover Drive.
