Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter and speculation in B-town about changes at the Burbank Leader. Today, there are details of some of those changes over on Kevin Roderick’s popular website, LA Observed.

Roderick posted a piece on former Los Angeles Daily News editor/ sometime activist/media commentator, Ron Kaye, who has a new gig as a front-page columnist for the new Sunday combined edition of the Burbank Leader/Glendale News-Press. The first issue is set to hit newsstands later this month, on January 30, according to a Los Angeles Times Community Newspapers press release.

Roderick makes this observation: “One presumes the Times suits know that Ron is a political activist these days, and that his playing field is Los Angeles, not Burbank or Glendale.” Hmm, very good point. In the Times’ press release Burbank Leader/Glendale News-Press editor, Dan Evans, refers to Kaye as “.. a community advocate.”

You can read Roderick’s post and the Times press release, which includes other changes, here.

    Hi Fronnie,

This guy will be stressing Glendale issues, along with a little teacher-bashing. Will probably go out of his way to bash Dr. Gordon as being the big problem with Burbank. He’s basically a right-wing populist type– the Daily News connection is scary–his being acclaimed as the architect of that paper is no compliment in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see what Ron Kaye
writes about in his column. I suspect there’s
some sort of plan/agenda since that column
will be running on the front page of that new
Sunday edition. That’s a pretty high profile
    place for a column.

    Dear Miss Fronnie,

Please don’t let Jim C. prejudice your view on the upcoming changes at the Burbank Leader (that some of us fondly call the Follower).

We were served much better years ago when the LA Times generated a Section called “Glendale-Burbank” each and every Sunday.

Please try to find an “optomistic bone” for Jim C. to “chew on”—might even bring some “LUSTer” to his hair.

I still agree that Ron Kaye is an odd choice
to write a column on the front page of a
    Burbank/Glendale newspaper. However, Kaye could
deliver some columns packed with wisdom and
insight for the two cities. At this point, we don’t
know what he can produce in this new position.
So, yes, let’s wait and see what Kaye has to
say in his new column — then we can judge
    him on what he writes.
