Burbank City Council race heading into the home stretch

The run-off election is about to heat up for three seats on the Burbank City Council. Since the primary election on February 24, my Burbank hillside neighborhood has seen very little political activity. I have not been bombarded with campaign phone calls nor has my mailbox been stuffed with campaign materials. However, that’s apparently about to change.

Yesterday in the Burbank Leader, four of the candidates, Incumbent/Mayor Dave Golonski, Educator Elise Stearns-Niesen, Technical Research Analyst Garen Yegparian, and Human Relations Manager Jess Talamantes, spoke of gearing up for a competitive battle ahead.

Also, the article pointed out the top vote-getters in the primary, Golonski, Talamantes, and Incumbent Dr. Dave Gordon, were not the big spenders. Nevertheless, what the three top finishers have in common is high name recognition. The three lesser known candidates, Stearns-Niesen, Yegparian, and Los Angeles County employee Kimberly Jo will probably have to spend the most money in the coming weeks to get the voters’ attention.

The general election is a little over a month away, on Tueday, April, 14, 2009.
