Burbank Walmart planning grand opening on June 22. The controversial Walmart Supercenter is nearly finished with a remodel that has taken more than a year. The old Great Indoors structure at 1301 North Victory Place in the Empire Center has been converted into several departments including grocery, general merchandise, sporting goods, apparel, and a pharmacy. More than 300 new associates have been hired. Walmart reportedly has 2.3 million employees worldwide.

Company founder, Sam Walton, opened the first Walmart in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. Walmart has grown into the world’s largest retailer with more than 11,500 stores in 28 countries. The company claims nearly 260 million customers visit Walmart every week.

Now the giant retailer is planning a big opening day celebration in Burbank for one of its newest Supercenter.   The ceremony is set to begin 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22. Local officials, community leaders, and residents are being invited to the event. Later that day, the doors of the Supercenter are expected to open for shopping at around 8 a.m.
