The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting their 20th annual Community Job Fair today at  Dodger Stadium 1000 Elysian Park Avenue in Los Angeles. “Last year, more than 8,000 job seekers from throughout Southern California gathered at the stadium to meet potential employers,” according to a news release.

Today, “more than a 100 companies” are expected at the stadium including Kaiser Permanente, Fairplex, Lowe’s, and retailer Curacao. Also, this job fair reportedly features training providers and government agencies.

When I was unemployed post-Warner layoffs in the early 2000’s I didn’t find job fairs useful at all. I’m an IT professional, and I found that sometimes (not always) there was more of a marketing presence than HR.

That said – I wish after the job fair they would note how many folks actually received an offer and / or serious interview process at the job fair site?

I hear what you’re saying. In the past, I’ve picked up some good leads at job fairs — but none panned out into a real job. However, when you’re seriously looking — you need to try all available avenues.
