Here’s an excuse or reason, depending on your perspective, to grab a slice of pizza as many times as you can this month. October is officially National Pizza Month in the U.S. The website pizza.com has some interesting facts about this pie.  The site claims 94% of Americans eat pizza at least once a month. There are reportedly  more than 60,000 pizzerias in the country.

The most popular  independent pizza joint  in the U.S. — Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria  in Anchorage , Alaska with annual sales at around $6 million. About 3 billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year. The five days with the biggest pizza sales: The night before Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve,  New Year’s Day, Super Bowl Sunday and Halloween.

In honor of the month-long celebration,  the world leader in pizza delivery, Domino’s, is offering a large two-topping pizza carryout special for $5.99 through October 5. That’s really cheap — even for a budget pizza place like Domino’s. There are probably other pizza bargains out there this month — so go ahead — have an extra slice or two or the whole pie!

My favorite place for pizza right now is Tony’s Bella Vista 3116 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank. I just love their pepperoni, onions, bell peppers, black olives and basil pizza. Thin or thick crust. Doesn’t matter. It’s all good.
