Tom Hanks name was not called during the People’s Choice Awards ceremony last Wednesday night. However, in the latest Harris Poll Tom Hanks won the title of America’s Favorite Movie Star.  A position he held in 2002, 2004, and 2005 in similar Harris Polls. Despite being skipped over by the People’s Choice Awards, Hanks is getting a lot of award buzz for his performance in two major films in 2013: “Captain Phillips” and “Saving Mr. Banks.”

Last December, 23 hundred adults were quizzed online about their favorite actor and their movie going habits for 2013. On the favorite movie star list, Denzel Washington placed second, followed by the very talented newcomer, Jennifer Lawrence.

Here’s the top ten actors with a tie for 9:

1. Tom Hanks
2. Denzel Washington
3.  Jennifer Lawrence
4. Julia Roberts
 5. Sandra Bullocks
 6. Johnny Depp
 7. John Wayne
 8. Clint Eastwood
9. Brad Pitt
tie
9. Meryl Streep

Also, those surveyed reported seeing an average of five films last year and admitted they were going less often to the movies than in years past. This comes as  some what of a surprise, considering 2013 delivered a diverse slate of interesting films to theaters. The North American box office revenues reached $10.9 billion — the best ever.  Perhaps, the continued rise in ticket prices is to blame for Americans buying fewer movie tickets. More here.
