Some fabulous weather for the first weekend of the summer. Sunny and warm days with temps dropping down into the mid-60s at night. Highs in the 80s in Burbank today, tomorrow, and through at least the beginning of the new week. Summertime weather makes the living pretty special here in Burbank and the rest of the Southland.
Actress Anna Kendrick has a new gig. Glendale-based company, DreamWorks Animation, has announced the selection of Kendrick to play upbeat princess,”Poppy,” in a new comedy musical, “Trolls.” Kendrick received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the Broadway musical “High Society” in 1998. She got an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in the movie, “Up in the Air” (2009). Kendrick really showed off her singing chops in the musical romantic comedy, “Pitch Perfect” (2012). The Cartoon Network, introduced its new line-up of programs yesterday and the list includes original animation and the reboot of some classic cartoons starring familiar characters like Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, and Tom and Jerry. Among the new programs, a miniseries called “Over the Wall” with voices from Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Collin Dean (The War at Home) and Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men). The Sony Pictures’ animation, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” has scored big time, even though, it doesn’t hit theaters until September 27 . Sony announced yesterday, the film will feature the title track from Paul McCartney’s forthcoming album, set to drop in UK and U.S. in mid-October, according to a PR Newswire release. McCartney’s song in the animation is called “New.” In the news release, Lia Vollack, president of Worldwide Music for Sony Pictures, said, “We’re thrilled and honored to have Paul’s infectious and inspiring song in the film.”... Netflix, the popular online movie service, has scored a huge deal with the Walt Disney Company. In a news release today, Disney announced a “… new multi-year licensing agreement that will make Netflix the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run live-action and animated feature films from The Walt Disney Studios.” The deal begins with 2013 direct-to-video releases and 2016 big screen feature films. “Disney and Netflix have shared a long and mutually beneficial relationship and this deal will bring to our subscribers, in the first pay...
