Joseph Gatto honored, murder still unsolved

The late father of state Assemblyman, Mike Gatto, received a special honor today. A large street sign designating the t-intersection of West Silver Lake Drive and Rowena Avenue  in Silver Lake as “Joseph Anthony Gatto  Memorial Square” was unveiled this morning at around 8 a.m. Assemblyman Gatto missed the unveiling ceremony reportedly due to a canceled flight and the important budget vote in Sacramento today. Chris Rizzotti wins major endorsement in Burbank City Council race

Realtor and Burbank Planning Board Vice-Chair, Chris Rizzotti, has picked up a major endorsement in the Burbank City Council race from local Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles). The nomination period for that 2015 race doesn’t open until next month, but Rizzotti has been running hard since announcing his candidacy back in March. Governor Brown signs historic film tax credit bill

A lot cheering going on in the state’s entertainment industry today, after Governor Brown signed into law that landmark tax film credit bill. The governor signed Assembly Bill 1839, yesterday in Hollywood surrounded by legislative representatives and dozens of film and television workers, according to a posting on the official ca.gov website.  The bill will  expand California’s existing $100 million tax credit to $330 million annually. . Bill to protect victims of college violence clears state Assembly

A  state bill, which would force colleges to report certain violent crimes to local authorities, cleared an important hurdle today. The California Assembly passed AB 1433 by an overwhelming vote of 74-0. The legislation, authored by local Assemblyman Mike Gatto, would require colleges  to report attacks like sexual assaults, particularly rape, and hate crimes to police, unless the victim asked that it not be reported to authorities.  Recently several California colleges, among them USC and Occidental College, have come under scrutiny for their handling of these type of... A $50,000 reward announced in search for killer of Joseph Gatto

Los Angeles Police detectives today announced the offer of a $50,000 reward in the unsolved murder of Joseph Gatto, the father of state Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D) 43rd District. Assemblyman Gatto joined police and some local leaders in making the announcement. The body of the elder Gatto was discovered in his Silver Lake home on November 13, 2013. Gatto reportedly died from a “single gunshot wound.” Investigators determined the victim’s death occurred “… approximately 24 hours before he was discovered by family members.” The reward is being offered for information... A huge turnout in the Los Feliz area today for the funeral of Joseph Gatto, the father of Assemblyman Mike Gatto. A Veterans Day ceremony was held at the McCambridge Park War Memorial at the corner of Amherst Drive and San Fernando Road in Burbank on November 11, 2013. Tuskegee Airman (retired) Lt. Colonel Robert “Bob”  J. Friend, 93, was the guest speaker. Among the acknowledgments, Friend received a certificate of recognition from the California Assembly. Friend was one of the first African-American pilots to serve in the U.S. military.  He trained at Tuskegee, Alabama. Funeral services set for the father of Assemblyman Mike Gatto

Preparation are underway for the funeral of Joseph Gatto, the father of Assemblyman Mike Gatto. The assemblyman’s office announced the services will be this coming Monday, November 25, 10 a.m. at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church ,2060 North Vermont Avenue, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. A private reception and graveside burial will follow the funeral mass, according to a news release. A tragedy in Silver Lake is resonating through Burbank, the Southland, and all the way to Sacramento. Assemblyman Mike Gatto’s father was found shot to death in his Silver Lake home last night.
