Bomb threat hoax targets Burbank businesses

Watch out! Scammers are targeting Burbank businesses with a bomb threat hoax. Over the past two weeks, Burbank Police say several local businesses have received the threat “via fax or email.”  In an advisory, Burbank PD explained the scam this way: “The threats have involved the request for a ransom to be paid via Western Union, usually in the amount of $25,000. Suspicious device found inside a Burbank library

A suspicious device drama at the Buena Vista Library caused some tense moments this morning in Burbank. At around 7:50 a.m. Burbank Police reportedly responded to a call of “suspicious items found by library employees.” The library at 300 North Buena Vista Street was closed at the time. “When Police Officers arrived, they found an unattended 12-volt battery inside the library which was connected to a charging system, similar to a trickle charging device. National Night Out returns to the popular Chandler Walk/Bike Path in Burbank tonight. The annual nationwide celebration promotes neighborhood camaraderie and strives to strengthen the ties between law enforcement and the community. An investigation underway in Burbank today following an officer involved shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant early this morning. The incident began around midnight at the McDonald’s at 2565 Hollywood Way near the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Burbank Police arrest Verdugo Park pool lifeguard. Twenty-three year-old Sun Valley resident, Arturo Montano, was booked at the Burbank jail for “for possessing images of a minor, which he used for the purpose of sexual stimulation and on six counts of concealing a camera to videotape the less than fully clothed bodies of others without their knowledge, for the purpose of sexual gratification,” according to a BPD news release. Burbank Police investigating gang-related shooting

Burbank Police are investigating what they’re calling a gang-related shooting, which sent an 18 year-old male to the hospital. The victim was hit by gunfire on New Year’s Eve. It happened in the 200 block of West Verdugo Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. In a news release, Burbank PD spokesman, Sergeant Claudio Losacco said “Preliminary information is that a black sedan, occupied by two Hispanic males drove by, yelling gang related obscenities and shot at the victim and his friend.” The unidentified victim was rushed to the hospital... Burbank Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a sexual assault suspect who allegedly groped a 12 year-old girl, at the Target in the Burbank Empire Center, earlier this month. Today Burbank Police released photos in connection with a theft at Bret Harte Elementary School  3200 Jeffries Avenue. The suspect described as an African-American female, 30-40, reportedly appeared on the school grounds two weeks ago, Wednesday, October 7, between 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.”Once on campus, the suspect walked into an unoccupied classroom. She stole a credit card and money from a teacher’s purse. The suspect later used the credit card to make purchases at stores in Glendale and Burbank, ” according to a news release sent out today.
