More Sarah books to hit the market

The small publisher of the only biography out of GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been overwhelmed by the demand for the book. “Sarah: How A Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down” was first released in April with a slightly different title.  It didn’t start flying off bookstore shelves until GOP presidential candidate John McCain announced he had picked Palin as his running mate on August 29. In the days that followed, Epicenter Press valiantly tried to keep pace with the demand. Epicenter has shipped around 60,000 copies of... Read More →

Sarah Palin, community organizers, and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Looking back on the historic events of the past week, GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech before the Republican National Convention stands out. The Alaskan governor was in full blown attack mode throughout the speech. The RNC loved it: the delegates broke out in applause and cheers numerous times during Palin’s speech. In the days since, Palin’s speech has been praised as one of the highlights of the convention. Many of the zingers and jabs thrown at the Democrats by Palin are being repeated over and over again. One that the Republicans... Read More →

Sarah Palin and the US magazine controversy

More controversy for GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Only a few days ago, on Wednesday September 3, Palin gave her much-watched acceptance speech before an enthusastic crowd at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. Earlier on Monday, Labor Day, the Alaska governor and her husband shocked a lot of folks when they released a statement admitting their 17-year-old daughter was pregnant. That sparked a storm of reports in the media. US Weekly put Palin and her baby Trig on its September 15, 2008 cover. Also inside the magazine, a pretty extensive story about Palin’s... Read More →

John McCain fires up the Republicans

Google Image GOP presidential candidate Senator John McCain gave a powerful and patriotic acceptance speech last night at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. Unlike his V.P. choice Sarah Palin, McCain’s speech was not riddled with sarcasm and mean-spirited attacks on the Democrats.   In fact, Senator McCain gave a nod of respect to the Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama for his achievements and then stated”… We’re going to win this election.” McCain went on to present his policies and ideas to create real change in America. As he... Sarah Palin comes out fighting

photo by Mary Knox Merrill/Christian Science Monitor A lot of discussion today about GOP V.P. candidate Sarah Palin’s speech last night before the Republican National Convention and a nationwide audience. I listened to the speech on KNX 1070 newsradio. Palin was plain spoken and direct. She spent little time talking about policy and issues. Nevertheless, she left an impression: positive for some, negative for others. Most of Palin’s 40 minute speech was allocated to introducing herself and family members, praising GOP presidential candidate John McCain’s leadership and military record; while throwing verbal jabs at the media and the Democratic ticket, particularly Senator... Sarah Palin’s bio gets a title change

While the GOP V.P. nominee’s public profile continues to change with every new revelation, you would think there would be some stability in her published book bio.  Nope, not the case. When it was released in April of 2008, the book by Kaylene Johnson was called, “Sarah: How a Small Town Girl Turned Alaska’s Political Establishement on Its Ear.”   Barnes & Noble.com is still advertising the hardcover, which was ranked at 15 last night, for sale under the old title. John McCain’s surprise choice

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain made a bold move that demonstrated the changing times. Today, Senator McCain announced the selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential pick. At a rally in Dayton, Ohio, McCain introduced Palin, a relatively unknown politician, as the running mate who will “… help me shake up Washington.”   Before becoming governor of Alaska in 2006, Palin served as a mayor and council member of a small town in that state. She is 44, married, the mother of five children... Read More →

Barack Obama makes history

Google Image Barack Obama’s eloquent and powerful speech of change still reverberates on the political scene, the day after the junior senator from Illinois stepped onto a stage in Denver and into the pages of history. Obama became the first African American to be nominated for president by one of the country’s two major political parties.  A huge crowd of around 80,000 witnessed Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco field in a Denver football stadium. Millions more watched as part of a huge television audience. I was among the masses glued to the tube listening to Obama state his case... Read More →

The suspense and political intrigue are over!  The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has picked Delaware Senator Joe Biden for the number two spot on the ticket. Senator Biden is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Biden is an expert on foreign policy and familiar with foreign leaders and diplomats around the world. In 2007, Biden made his own run for the presidency and was quoted as saying Obama was “not yet ready” for the highest office in the land. Apparently, Biden has changed that opinion. ... Read More →

A petition drive underway against FOX

Nearly 100, 000 people reportedly have expressed outrage at FOX for using racism, prejudice, and fear to smear presumed Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, that’s according to the Moveon.org political action website. The site lists the charges against FOX … “First, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confused “Obama” with “Osama” and then joked on the air about killing Obama. Next, a FOX anchor said a playful fist pound by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a “terrorist fist jab.” And then, FOX called Michelle Obama “Obama’s baby mama” –slang... Read More →

Burbank Democratic Club endorses Barack Obama for President

I dropped by the backyard cookout of the Burbank Democratic Club this evening. A spirited group of about 20 ate BBQ, sipped beverages of their choice, and discussed the state of the country and the world. And oh yes, talked a lot about politics and the upcoming general election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.   Club President Janet Reynolds called for a vote and got a unanimous endorsement for the presumptive presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, Senator Barack Obama. Also, the group threw its support behind a... Read More →
