Blast From the Past store reopens in Burbank

A Magnolia Park favorite, Blast From the Past, is back in business. After spending 8 months renovating the old Wilson’s Leather building at 3117 West Magnolia Boulevard,  the owners, Larry and Kathy Ross, held a grand re-opening last Saturday, July 25.  Blast From the Past spent 9 years at its old location, 931 North Hollywood Way, before making the big move. Today is National Donut Day. Go ahead, have a sweet one or two or whatever. In celebration of the day, various businesses and retailers are offering freebies. I knew the line would be long at the Krispy Kreme  in the Burbank Empire Center,  1521 North Victory Place where they’re giving away a free donut to anyone who asks for one. Joan Rivers’ cause of death revealed

Legendary comedienne, Joan Rivers, died of brain damage caused by lack of oxygen a result  of “a predictable complication of medical therapy.” according to a report released today by New York medical examiner’s office. On August 28, Rivers entered Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic. The medical examiner’s report says the entertainer underwent a laryngoscopy  and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation to investigate voice and stomach reflux issues. Comic Joan Rivers dies at 81

Legendary comedienne, Joan Rivers, died today surrounded by family and friends in a New York hospital. Rivers was rushed to the hospital last Thursday after complications developed during a medical procedure at an outpatient clinic. Rivers’ reportedly stop breathing. She had been on life support until yesterday when she was moved out of ICU and into a private room. Sid Caesar (1922 - 2014)

Another Hollywood star has passed away. Sid Caesar died today in his Beverly Hills home. TV talk show host/long time friend, Larry King, broke the sad news on KNX 1070 radio today. King called Caesar a “giant of comedy” for making  his mark back in the 50s on such TV hits as “Your Show Of Shows,” “Caesar’s Hour,” and “The Sid Caesar Show.” He appeared in movies as well, among them, “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad World” (1963, “Airport”(1975), “Grease”(1978). Barack Obama teams up with Spider-Man

   Barack Obama and Spidey share a fist-bump in Marvel Comics’ upcoming special issue of “Amazing Spider-Man.”   President-elect Barack Obama has met plenty of famous people, but next week he will get a rare opportunity to hang with a superhero.
