Gas prices take a dip for Labor Day weekend

As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, prices at the gas pump are taking a dive. Yeah, gas prices are down across the country including right here in Burbank. Some of the cheapest gas in the Media City is at Kwik Serv Gasoline at Victory Boulevard and Hollywood Way. At this station regular is selling for $3.25 per gallon. The average price for regular in California is $3.32 per gallon and here locally, it averages $3.55 per gallon, according to Triple A’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report. That’s still... Read More →

Gasoline prices dropping in Burbank

Gasoline prices are dropping at the pumps all over Burbank and elsewhere.  The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report says the national average is $3.086 a gallon for regular. That’s the lowest it’s been since early 2011. Gas prices are not quite that low in the Media City — but they might get there soon. Today, I joined a crowd of motorists jockeying for pump space at the Arco station, 3701 West Magnolia Boulevard. This station claims to have some of the cheapest gas in the Media City. Today I paid... Read More →

Millions hitting the road for Thanksgiving holiday as gas prices rise

If you’re hitting the road for the long Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, you are not alone. The Automobile Club says 43.4 million of us will be traveling during this time — and nearly 90 percent will be doing so on the roads and highways. The busiest day for any kind of  Thanksgiving travel is today, the day before Turkey Day. Meanwhile, gas prices are rising , after declining steadily for several weeks. On November 12, the national average for a gallon of regular gas $3.18. Over the... Read More →

Photo Gallery: Getting charged up

Why wait at a gas station to pay those high pump prices? If you’ve got one of these Toyota Prius plug-ins,  like this Burbank resident over on Griffith Park Drive, you can charge up your wheels right in your own driveway. When the battery is fully charged, you can crank up your ride and run on electric power. Meanwhile, at the Shell station up at Magnolia Boulevard and Buena Vista regular is selling for $3.97 a gallon today. Not great, but better than $5 a gallon. For those of us... Read More →

Regular gas drops below $4 a gallon in Burbank

Just before the long Easter holiday weekend, gas prices dipped in Burbank. Today I bought $20 worth of regular gas at the Arco station at Lake Street and Alameda Avenue in B-town. The price: $3.99 a gallon. Okay, it’s not the serious tumble we would like — but hopefully, this is the beginning of a major drop in gas prices. Today, the triple-A Daily Fuel Gauge Report is showing the average price for regular in our area, the Los Angeles-Long Beach region, is $4.1 a gallon. This is... Read More →

Gas selling for under $4 a gallon in Burbank!

After flirting with the $5 a gallon milestone , self-serve regular is back to being under $4 a gallon at some pump stations in Burbank. Yesterday, I gassed-up at the Shell station at Buena Vista Street and Magnolia Boulevard for $3.89 a gallon for self-serve regular. Back in early October, the price soared to 4.60 a gallon and above for regular. The last time gas prices were that high in California was back in June of 2008. A gas shortage and problems at the oil refineries were blamed for the... Read More →

Gas prices heading up for Labor Day weekend, consumers blame oil companies

Gasoline prices are on a roll again — upward!  As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, prices at the pumps continue to creep up. Today the national average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.75, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. As usual, prices are higher in California.  Today the state and the Los Angeles/Long Beach (including Burbank) area average for a gallon of that grade of gas is $4.13. A month ago, the price was $3.80... Read More →

Regular gas under $4 a gallon in Burbank!

Some relief for consumers at the pump. Over the past few weeks, gasoline prices have been steadily declining and have now dipped below the $4 a gallon for regular mark in the Media City.  In some places here regular gas is now selling for between $3.90 to $3.99 a gallon. Today the average price for that grade of gas in the Los Angeles area and statewide is $4 a gallon, according to the  AAA Fuel Gauge Report.  The national average for regular is a lot lower — $3.52... Labor Day weekend gas prices not bad

Okay, we’re not seeing self-serve regular for $2 a gallon — but under $4 a gallon is still a good buy. A short while ago, regular gasoline at the pump appeared to be headed for the $5 a gallon mark. The national average for regular today is $3.6, according to triple A.  However, on Labor Day weekend last year the average price was $2.6 a gallon for regular. The same trend can be seen on the state and local levels. The Auto Club reports the state average for regular today $3.9 a... Read More →

Gas Scout: On the hunt for the best pump prices in Burbank

Skyrocketing gas prices are turning motorists into gas scouts — on the lookout for the lowest pump prices anytime they hit the road. If that makes some of ditch the cellphone calls and texting to pay more attention to their surroundings –that’s a huge plus! I spent $20 on gasoline last Tuesday and I got less than five gallons. I didn’t gas-up at a high end station like the Chevron at Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue, which was charging $4.23 for a gallon of self-serve regular. At the lower end a couple... Read More →

Regular gas breaks through the $4 barrier in the Media City

The price of regular gasoline has been hovering very close to that dreaded $4 a gallon mark for several days here in B-town. Today, for the first time, I saw stations with posted prices for regular at a little over $4 a gallon. I began reporting on the appearance of $4 a gallon gas in Burbank about two weeks ago. There are still gas stations in Burbank selling regular a bit cheaper: $3.91, $3.93, and $3.95. I gassed up my ride today for $3.93 gallon. That was bargain when... Read More →

Bummed by rising gas prices at the pumps!

Photo: FLLewis/A Writer’s Groove — Burbank A sure sign of summer, rising gas prices. Wait a minute. Prices at the pumps have been climbing for a while. In fact, a gas spike has been underway for the past seven weeks with “no end in sight”, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch dated June 18, 2009. Locally, the price of gasoline is hovering around $3 a gallon. Last night, I gassed up at a station in Burbank and paid $2.99 a gallon for self-serve regular. I was... Read More →

Gas prices and the debate over the auto bailout

FLLewis / A Writer’s Groove – Burbank Gasoline prices are looking real good these days, but consumers are too busy struggling to stay afloat in the sinking economy to enjoy the bargains at the pumps. I was out this morning and found self-serve regular at two gas stations on Glenoaks Boulevard in Burbank selling at $2.39 a gallon. The Auto Club of Southern California website reports the average price of regular in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area today is $2.36 a gallon: it was $2.39 yesterday and $3.40 a month ago.... Gas prices, Wall Street, and that $700 billion bailout

Burbank/August 2008 I complained a lot during the summer about the jacked-up prices of gasoline. As recently as mid-August gas prices at the pumps in Burbank were still over $4 a gallon. Then prices began to tumble.  About two weeks ago, I paid $3.70 a gallon — on Monday, I paid even less, $3.60 a gallon. I should be doing the happy dance or at least a quick cha-cha step over the money I’m saving, but I’m not feeling it. The reason: that meltdown on Wall Street and a proposed $700 billion bailout.... Oil prices skyrocketing, no relief at the pumps

Our money pains at the gasoline stations are apparently going to get worse. Today, oil prices hit a new record of nearly 143 dollars a barrel. This bad news comes days before the July 4th holiday week when thousands hit the roads and highways. While out and driving in Burbank, I could not help noticing a number of brand new huge SUVs still sporting dealer plates. Those drivers must have received an incredible deal to ignore the cost of keeping an SUV fueled and rolling these days. I... Read More →
