Burbank Police Chief Scott LaChasse has health episode

Burbank Police Chief Scott LaChasse reportedly recovering today after suffering a health episode at an event in Glendale yesterday. LaChasse collapsed around noon while attending the Glendale Police Awards luncheon at the Hilton Hotel. Emergency personnel in the room rushed to his aid. A short time later, LaChasse regained consciousness, but was taken away to a nearby hospital. LaChasse has probably undergone a series of medical tests, however, the Burbank Police Department is saying very little about his condition. Suspect who allegedly targeted Burbank arrested

A serial burglary suspect who allegedly struck several times in Magnolia Park and Burbank Village sections of the Media City is behind bars tonight. Burbank Police announced late today the arrest of 28 year-old Hakob Torosyan of Glendale. Torosyan is being held without bail and is due to appear in a Burbank court Tuesday, March 15, on 14 counts of commercial burglary, according to a Burbank Police news release. The future is looking brighter for the Haggen grocery store at 3830 West Verdugo Avenue in Burbank. This is one of the around 100 stores Haggen is selling off in an effort to right its struggling company, which filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in early September. As the holidays near, utility scammers are ramping up their schemes to get money out of residents and business owners in Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena. Family Promise fundraiser at the Autry National Center

Family Promise of the Verdugos, a local nonprofit that assists homeless families, is holding a fundraiser called “Restore the Dream.” Last April, the organization had to temporarily suspend services due to financial concerns. They have a goal of reopening the doors to needy families in early 2015.

The newly appointed interim executive director, J.P. O’ Connor, the board of directors, and the Turn Around Committee for FPV are inviting everyone with a desire to help this cause to the “Restore the Dream” dinner at Autry National Center and western history museum to raise awareness and funds.“We ask the community to join us on the ‘Mother Road’ as we explore the 20th Century western migration of families seeking a better life along Route 66 … and support the journey today as local families are taken from homelessness to sustainable independence with the assistance of Family Promise of the Verdugos,” said J.P. O’Connor in a news release.

Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased up until Nov. 7 by calling 818-599-4090 or by e-mailing ExecutiveDirector@FamilyPromiseVerdugos.org .

Since 2010, this chapter of Family Promise has served 76 families — including 111 adults and 143 children — in the east San Fernando Valley are including Burbank, Glendale, North Hollywood and Eagle Rock. The nonprofit provides shelter and food as well as assistance with job development and help locating transitional housing.

A Family Promise Hospitality Network of 26 local congregations – 13 of which host families overnight for a week at a time– is part of this effort to help change the lives of homeless families.

The interfaith, nonsectarian FPV network has a 100% success rate of homeless-to-home transition. The FPV is one of more than 180 affiliates nationwide.

Glendale authorities asking for help in finding arson suspects

Glendale authorities are asking for help in finding three arson suspects in connection with that brush fire above Brand Library last month. The fire broke out at around 12:30 p.m. on June 22 and scorched 150 acres of mountain terrain. No homes nor structures were damaged.  An investigation, which included interviews with witnesses, has determined the three-day blaze may have been arson, according to a notice posted on the City of Glendale website yesterday. I had a birthday a few days ago, and I regret not indulging in a Crumbs cupcake, one of the best on the planet. Now the chance for a repeat at that cupcakery is gone. Glendale brush fire 60% contained, firefighters getting upper hand

Firefighters are getting the upper hand today on that brush fire burning in the hills of Glendale. The fire broke out  last Sunday and has scorched around 150 acres above Brand Park. A brush fire is burning for a second day in the hills above Brand Park in Glendale. The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. yesterday and quickly grew to 150 acres. Earthquake shakes up the Southland today

Did you feel it? The Southland got hit with an earthquake this morning at 10:13 a.m. Apparently it was center  four miles south-southwest of Glendale and  two miles east-southeast of Hollywood, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.  They say it measured 3.0. Here in Burbank, the shaker felt like a quick, sharp jolt.  So far no reports of damage from the minor quake.

Disney-ABC Television Group to layoff 175

The Disney-ABC Television Group is reorganizing and laying off 175 workers. The cutbacks reportedly will start  today, mostly at the unit’s eight owned and operated stations in New York, Southern California, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh Durham and Fresno. The SoCal station is located nearby in Glendale. The firings will reduce the 7,600 staff by 2 per cent. The reason: new technologies forcing the hiring of workers with skills for the digital age.
