Burbank Costco reopens today after hazmat incident

Burbank’s Costco is back in business today after shutting down yesterday afternoon due to a hazmat incident. Shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday a refrigerant line apparently ruptured. “The 911 call reported a possible Freon leak after a loud bang. Any report of a gas or chemical involved in an incident initiates a Hazardous Materials response,”  said Captain Peter Hendrickson, Burbank Fire spokesman, in an email. Glendale authorities asking for help in finding arson suspects

Glendale authorities are asking for help in finding three arson suspects in connection with that brush fire above Brand Library last month. The fire broke out at around 12:30 p.m. on June 22 and scorched 150 acres of mountain terrain. No homes nor structures were damaged.  An investigation, which included interviews with witnesses, has determined the three-day blaze may have been arson, according to a notice posted on the City of Glendale website yesterday. Glendale brush fire 30% contained, but still a threat

A brush fire is burning for a second day in the hills above Brand Park in Glendale. The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. yesterday and quickly grew to 150 acres. A plume of smoke and ash from that fire could be seen for miles, especially in nearby Burbank. Five hikers in the area were rescued. Three were treated for dehydration. Deja vu! Another car crashes into the same local Starbucks

The Starbucks coffee outlet at Western Avenue and Glenoaks Boulevard in Glendale shut down unexpectedly this afternoon, after a car crashed through the storefront, despite the safety bollards installed to prevent such mishaps. It happened shortly after 1 p.m. There were no customers in the Starbucks at the time and the driver, an 86-year-old woman, was apparently not hurt. Glendale Information Officer, Sergeant Thomas Lorenz, says the driver, who does not want to be identified, refused treatment from paramedics.
