Queen Latifah added to Super Bowl festivities

Entertainer and New Jersey native, Queen Latifah, is going to sing “America The Beautiful” during the pregame festivities for Sunday’s Super Bowl. The NFL and Fox Network made the announcement in a news release yesterday. Latifah’s performance and that of opera star, Renee Fleming, singing the national anthem will be televised before the game kickoff. Bruno Mars, whose album “Unorthodox Jukebox” won Best Pop Vocal Album at last Sunday’s Grammys, will perform during halftime. Grammys: Daft Punk, high ratings, and bloated commercial breaks

The French helmet-wearing duo, Daft Punk, are probably feeling pretty lucky today and for good reason. They walked away with some the biggest awards at the Grammys last night, including, Record of the Year for “Get Lucky,” Album of the Year for “Random Access Memories,” and for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Award Season: Oscar maker layoffs, Writers Guild and Grammy nominations

Oscar maker to axe  a lot of workers It’s not going to be a ho, ho, jolly holiday season for some employees of the company that makes Oscar. The Wrap is reporting today that R.S. Owens, a Chicago-based company, will be laying off almost 100 workers by December 17. That’s more than a third of the staff. R.S.
