Smart & Final puts in a bid for Haggen store in Burbank

The future is looking brighter for the Haggen grocery store at 3830 West Verdugo Avenue in Burbank. This is one of the around 100 stores Haggen is selling off in an effort to right its struggling company, which filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in early September. Gelson’s and Smart & Final step up to buy Haggen markets

Gelson’s and Smart & Final have signed agreements to purchase some of the soon-to-be closed Haggen supermarkets, according to a news release on the Haggen website today. However, the Haggen market at 3830 West Verdugo Avenue in Burbank is still in limbo. New Haggen grocery store closing in Burbank

The doors of the new Haggen grocery store are still open this weekend, but not for long. Last Thursday, the financially troubled grocer announced it was throwing in the towel on an ill-fated expansion plan and closing more than 75 stores in Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and California — including the one in Burbank at 3830 West Verdugo Avenue.
