Local basketball star wins fourth gold medal

  Hoop star Lisa Leslie went out in style at the Olympics in Beijing. Leslie helped the U.S. women’s basketball team crush Australia 92-to-65 to win the gold medal, yesterday. Team USA has taken the gold in four straight Olympics — beating the Aussies in the last three for it. WNBA hands out punishment for on-court melee

The WNBA wasted no time in dealing with the bench-clearing brawl between the L.A. Sparks and the Detroit Shock on Tuesday night. A free-for-all fight is not unusual in male sports; however, this is the first time in memory it has happened in the WNBA. Google Image Today WNBA officials reportedly are investigating the bench-clearing melee at The Palace of Auburn Hills, last night. It happened during the final seconds of the televised game between the L.A. Sparks and Detroit Shock. It started when Sparks’ Candace Parker and Detroit’s Plenette Pierson got tangled up and tumbled to the hardwood. Parker and Pierson got into a scuffle.
