Guest Blogger: Magnolia Park merchant speaks out

My wife and I own BURBANK ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES at 3423 West Magnolia Boulevard on “Antique Row.” Our store specializes in mid-century and baby boomer collectibles. We’re not a thrift store or junk shop! Our merchandise is highly collectible. Many of our customers say our store brings back happy childhood memories. It would not be the same if “Antique Row” is replaced with new trendy electronics and new fashion accessory stores! There are already enough vintage clothing, Halloween stores, new retail outlets, coffee shops & restaurants in our business section of... Read More →

City Buzz: Progress in Mag Park parking dispute

Progress is being made in that bitter parking dispute among some merchants on Magnolia Boulevard in the Magnolia Park area of Burbank. The two-hour parking signs were replaced by one-hour signs on the north side of the 3400 block of Magnolia last Friday. When I dropped by the block the day after, Burbank Antiques owner, Ralph Persinger, told me visitors are following the new parking restrictions: “It’s great! We’re getting a lot of turnover.” The one-hour parking signs are controversial. For the past several months, the majority of the merchants on... Read More →

Burbank Scene: New Mag Park parking lot busy — but more lots needed

The new Magnolia Park parking lot is attracting business. This morning before 11 a.m., I checked the lot and between 15-24 vehicles were parked there A number of spaces were vacant, too. After numerous delays, the lot between Maple and Kenwood Streets on Magnolia Boulevard, opened the middle of last month. The new public lot will ease the street parking crunch in that area — but help is still needed near other busy sections of Magnolia Boulevard. Where’s the next new parking lot going to be?... Talk of the Town: Allegations of harassment and bullying in parking dispute

The dispute over parking in the 3400 block of Magnolia Boulevard has taken an ugly and disturbing turn. Over a period of several months, some of the merchants have spoken out and contacted city officials about parking problems along that block. At the center of the dispute is the coffeehouse/cafe, Romancing the Bean. City Buzz: Magnolia Park merchants seek solutions to parking problems

Magnolia Boulevard has become a victim of its own success. For years, owners of the quaint shops, antique and collectibles stores, and moderately priced eateries, fought mightily to draw attention to their sleepy street in Burbank’s Magnolia Park. Well, that’s all changed. Magnolia Boulevard is now a hip cool place to shop, mingle, dine, and hang out. The new popularity has aggravated parking problems, which have always dogged the boulevard. Those parking problems have sparked a major conflict among some merchants in the 3400 block of West Magnolia.... Read More →

A new parking lot in Burbank’s Magnolia Park hits a snag

Construction of a new parking lot in Burbank’s Magnolia Park has hit a snag. Work crews were busy at the lot on Magnolia Boulevard, between Maple and Kenwood Streets, back in early May. In fact, the  pouring of the concrete, striping the parking spaces, and planting the landscape were expected to finish off the project by the end of the month. However when I dropped by the lot today, it was clear the project is far from complete. It looked almost abandoned. In an email exchange today, Burbank Public Works... Read More →
