President Obama on Memorial Day and our fallen heroes

President Obama on Memorial Day and our fallen heroes. This weekend, Obama offered up praise to active-duty troops and veterans, while he stressed Memorial Day is for those brave warriors who never came home. For many of us, the holiday is a great time to gather for BBQs and parties, shop, or just relax and enjoy our freedoms. We can do more. In his weekly address, the president asked Americans to take part in an act of remembrance from hiring a veteran, reaching out to a grieving military family or... Read More →

Memorial Day 2014: Paying tribute to our fallen heroes

“From those shots fired at Lexington and Concord more than two centuries ago to our newest generation of veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our history shines with patriots who answered the call to serve.  They put their lives on the line to defend the country they loved.  And in the end, many gave that “last full measure of devotion” so that our nation would endure. City Buzz: Bob Frutos, police commission drama, BPD cases and more

Bob Frutos plans to stay involved in city matters Bob Frutos lost on two fronts recently: a city council seat in a very tight race with Emily Gabel-Luddy and last week, the city council-majority (including Gabel-Luddy) refused to re-appoint him to the Burbank Police Commission.  Nevertheless, Frutos is still smiling and touting the need for change in Burbank. Frutos provided some details for his sunny viewpoint  in answers to a couple of e-mail questions I sent him over the weekend: 1. Change was at the heart of your city council campaign. You...
