Burbank on Parade Day, pancakes, food trucks and more

Burbank on Parade has evolved into a huge all day affair called “Burbank on Parade and Family Festival.” The theme for the 35th annual parade is “Celebrating Our Heroes!” There will be plenty to do before and after the bands, floats, and equestrian units roll down Olive Avenue. “We’re making it a whole day of family activities,” said festival chair, Ross Benson, in a news release. “There will be things to do for all ages from young kids to seniors and music everyone will enjoy.” Here’s a list of just some... The Annual Ponytail Softball Jamboree kicked off with a parade of teams along West Clark Avenue, from Burroughs High School to George Izay park, in Burbank yesterday. Spectators were treated to a colorful contingent of spirited softball teams — some even shared their favorite cheers with the parade watchers. Later, the girls gathered on several baseball diamonds at the park to compete in a series of challenges to show-off their softball skills. Under threatening skies yesterday, Burbank on Parade paid tribute to Burbank as “City of the Wild Wild West.” Leading off this year’s parade “Gunfighters for Hire.” The performers were dressed for the period and packing their sidearms. Along the parade route, Keystone Street to Lomita Street on Olive Avenue, these hotheads would settle their disputes with a series of bang, bang, shoot’em ups. The parade spectators loved it! Burbank on Parade 2014

Burbank on Parade 2014 rolled down Olive Avenue in the Media City today — with smiles, waves and no raindrops. A wet system apparently swept through overnight leaving behind cool temps, light winds, some clouds, but mostly sunshine. A wonderful spring day for a parade. Crowds of Burbank fans lined the avenue to watch a celebration of the city. More photos coming.

The Media City is sprucing up and getting ready for Burbank on Parade this Saturday, April 26. Public Works crews were out this morning patching spots of Olive Avenue, between Keystone and Lomita Streets, the main parade route. This is the 33rd edition of the hometown event. Burbank teacher named grand marshal of Burbank on Parade 2014

Another honor for Burbank top-notch teacher, Rebecca Mieliwocki. You might remember, that Mieliwocki won the National Teacher of the Year Award back in 2012. The Luther Burbank Middle School English teacher kicked off a year-long journey of celebration with a ceremony at the White House and recognition by President Obama, followed by a tour of 30 U.S. states and nine countries — where she reportedly represented American’s school teachers. Repeat! Burbank Rose Parade float wins Fantasy trophy

A spectacular event in Pasadena today as the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade thrilled millions on T.V. and on city streets.  At least a million fans reportedly lined the parade route to see energetic marching bands, gleaming vintage vehicles, high-stepping equestrian units and of course, beautifully decorated floats. The theme this year, “Dreams Come True.” For the second straight year, the Burbank Rose float won the Fantasy trophy for “Lights… Camera… Action!” It was one of only six floats built by volunteers. More volunteers needed for Burbank Rose Parade float

Burbank Rose Parade float preparations kick into high gear today and more volunteers are needed. Yesterday, I spent some time at the float barn, 123 West Olive Avenue in Burbank, watching the volunteers work their magic. I followed two volunteers, Connie Weir and Virginia Meyers, as they meticulously decorated a recreation of a Victrola record player — produced during the early part of the 20th Century by The Victor Talking Machine Company. Burbank on Parade tomorrow in the Media City

Preparations are in the final stages for tomorrow’s edition of Burbank on Parade. Burbank on Parade, that all volunteer, action-packed, annual community event, is preparing to roll down West Olive Avenue on Saturday April 6, 2013. However, there is still a lot of work to be done. Right now, there’s a critical need for volunteers, especially those with the skills to help build the floats. Fundraiser for Burbank on Parade

A fundraiser tonight for one of Burbank’s most popular events — Burbank on Parade. The parade is filled with marching bands, floats, vintage cars and much, much more. It’s the spirit of Burbank on display and “…  showcases the people and groups in town”, according to a news release. Burbank PD’s 1949 Ford police cruiser wins award

Burbank Police Department has a winner on the force and it rolls on four wheels.  The department’s vintage 1949 Ford police cruiser has won the 2012 California Peace Officers Association “Best Specialty Vehicle” award. The cruiser has been restored with donations from local businesses and individuals, according to a news release from the Burbank PD. Burbank on Parade tomorrow

Rain or shine, Burbank on Parade is set to roll at 11 a.m. along a stretch of Olive Avenue between Keystone and Lomita streets tomorrow morning. “The World of Aviation and Its Heroes” is the theme. The grand marshals are two Southland aviation pioneers, Bob Gilliland and Clay Lacy.
