Johnny Carson Park grand reopening celebration today

A major bash planned this evening at Johnny Carson Park. The grand re-opening celebration is set for the 5-8 p.m. with free food, giveaways, face painting, music, and even a kids zone for the little ones. Burbank’s Parks and Recreation Department is spearheading the event. The park at 400 South Bob Hope Drive, across from the Burbank Studios, reopened quietly earlier this month. Halloween carnival at Vickroy Park in Burbank

As part of a long standing traditiion, the Burbank Optimist Club is sponsoring a Halloween carnival at Vickroy Park on the spookiest night of the year. More than 300 ghosts, gobblins, and trick or treaters are expected. There will be chances to play carnival games and win treats. It’s a fun and safe way to enjoy Halloween. The event has been going on for more than 25 years. It’s free and open to the public.

They need volunteers to run games, decorate, clean-up … etc. Teenagers can get service learning hours. If you can help or need more information, please call Janet Diel at (818)  216-9377

Photo Gallery: Burbank Verdugo pools set to open next Saturday

Pool time is coming to the Verdugo Recreation Center at Verdugo Avenue and California Street in Burbank. The pool was shutdown in 2008 and completely rebuilt. The new bigger and better pool “… features a 50-meter pool which can be configured for lap swimming or recreational use. One-meter and three-meter diving boards are available for use during recreational swim times., ” according to a city news release. Fair weather returns to Burbank

The clouds are disappearing making way for blue skies and sunshine in Burbank today. It’s still cool and a little breezy. The high today in the Media City in the low 60s. Yeah, I know, that storm was quickie and we need more rain. Don’t pack away the umbrella. There’s rain in the weekend forecast. Oh, and the daytime temperatures are going to warm up to the 70s over the next few days. Nice.
