Curfew in Burbank and businesses take action

A curfew goes into effect in Burbank at 5 p.m. until 6 a.m. today and many businesses are taking action. Some, like the Apple computer specialist, MelroseMac, 2400 West Olive Avenue, are boarding up doors and windows preparing for the worst. Demonstrators returned to Hobby Lobby in Burbank yesterday in small but determined numbers.They are protesting the  recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which allows the giant crafts and home decor retailer to refuse to cover certain forms of  female birth control in its employee health insurance plan because of the religious beliefs of the owners. Demonstrators spread their anti-Hobby Lobby message in Burbank

Protesters returned to the Hobby Lobby in Burbank yesterday to spread their message.  The protesters are upset because Hobby Lobby won the right to opt out of providing certain female contraceptives in its employee health insurance plan for religious reasons. The decision was handed down last month by the U.S. Supreme Court in a close vote of 5-4.  On Saturday, the protesters held-up signs condemning the ruling. Dueling demonstrations at Burbank Hobby Lobby

The new Hobby Lobby in Burbank was the scene of not one but two demonstrations late yesterday. On the sidewalk, near the entrance to the parking lot, a group of demonstrators gathered with protest signs.They’re upset with the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, which allows Hobby Lobby to opt out of providing certain contraceptives  through the company’s employee health insurance plan. More Protests at Hobby Lobby in Burbank

Protesters converged on the new Hobby Lobby store in Burbank yesterday for the second straight day. Picketers greeted customers at the parking lot entrance on North Victory Boulevard July 4th during the soft opening. This is the newest Southland store for the controversial national craft and home decor chain run by the evangelical Christian family of David Green. Labor trouble at Burbank hospital

A noisy picket line on West Alameda Avenue in front of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank yesterday drew stares from many and horn blasts of support from some motorists. The demonstrators marched, blew whistles, and waved picket signs for several hours. Paul Matakiewicz, chief negotiator for SEIU-UHW, says 80 members took part in the demonstration, which he characterized as an informational picket line. Protesters arrested at the Walt Disney lot in Burbank

Two protesters, dressed as Minnie and Mickey Mouse, chained themselves to a gate at the Walt Disney Studios today, according to the Los Angeles Times. The costumed activists reportedly were protesting because of a fiber in Disney’s children’s books, which they say is from endangered Indonesian rain forests. Protests against ban on gay marriage

Barbara Davidson/ Los Angeles Times The anger over the passage of a bitterly fought California proposition denying marriage to gay couples has spilled into the streets of several communities in the Southland. Thousands of opponents of Proposition 8 began protesting Wednesday night, when it became clear the measure had passed 52 percent to 48 percent in Tuesday’s election. Nearly 100, 000 people reportedly have expressed outrage at FOX for using racism, prejudice, and fear to smear presumed Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, that’s according to the Moveon.org political action website.
