Review: Good eats at Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in Burbank

To my surprise, we got some pretty good eats at Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in Burbank. It’s hard to live up to the hype from the 2014 Academy Awards pizza delivery stunt and all that attention from the Ellen Degeneres Show. Nevertheless, we left this pizza joint full and satisfied after a quick-lunch last week. However, it almost did not happen. I saw a help wanted sign for a cook on the door and just about turned around to head somewhere else. If... Read More →

Review: The Canyon Grille better than former Clubhouse Grill

The big reopening bash for the Canyon Grille restaurant at the DeBell Golf Club on East Walnut in Burbank is this evening. The Canyon Grille has been open only a few months and is already a vast improvement over its predecessor, the very marginal Clubhouse Grill. The Canyon Grille has the potential to be a notable eatery in the Media City, but there are still some bumps and rough spots that need attention. Last Sunday, my husband and I had lunch at the C-G. The prices are reasonable... Read More →

Lunch at DeBell Clubhouse Grill gets thumbs down review

I joined friends for lunch on the patio of the Clubhouse Grill at the DeBell Golf Club in Burbank yesterday, and it was a big disappointment. The views of the hillsides and golf greens were terrific, but the food and the service were totally sub par. First, our table was dirty and we had to ask the waitress to clean it off. She gave it a quick wipe — leaving behind food stuck to the table surface. After we ordered, it took 20 minutes or so for our food to... Read More →

Landmark Burbank restaurant re-opens

A Burbank landmark, Frank’s Coffee Shop and Restaurant, 916 West Olive Avenue, is back in business, after falling on hard times and having to close its doors several weeks ago. Today during the pre-opening,  manager and former owner, Jose Lopez, and his staff were serving customers just like old times at Frank’s. One customer, chowing down on a hot turkey sandwich, told me the food was even” better than before!” Frank’s first opened its doors back in the 1950s.
