Burbank float a winner in 2018 Rose Parade

The Burbank Rose Parade float came up a winner in Pasadena today. The 2018 entry, “Sand-Sational Helpers,” won the Founder Award for most outstanding float built and decorated by volunteers from a community or organization. The float showcases recycling with the depiction of sea creatures doing their share. The theme of the 129th Rose Parade was “Making a Difference.” There were 50 entries in the 2018 Burbank Float design contest. Spectators get close up view of award-winning Burbank Rose float

If you want to get a close up look at the 2015 award-winning Burbank Rose Parade float, you need do it pretty soon. “Jungle Rescue”  picked up the Past President’s Award on New Year’s Day  for most creative design and use of both floral and non-floral materials. Hundreds of volunteers spent a lot of hours working on the float. Among them, 8 year-old Andrew Podbelski who was at the float viewing at Glenoaks Boulevard and  Olive Avenue yesterday. Burbank float “Jungle Rescue” wins award in 2015 Rose Parade

Burbank Tournament of Roses Association has much to cheer about on this New Year’s Day. For the sixth straight year, the Burbank Rose Parade float has won an award. Burbank’s 2015  parade entry is “Jungle Rescue,” which pays homage to volunteer firefighters in an animated scene about a group of monkeys who fight to put out a fire in a bird house. “Jungle Rescue” won the Past Presidents’ trophy for most creative design and use of both floral and non-floral materials. Louis Zamperini World War ll hero

Rose Parade officials make announcement about passing of Louis Zamperini

Olympian, World War ll hero, and Southland inspiration, Louis Zamperini, died earlier this week at the age of 97. Universal Studios made the announcement  last Wednesday.  Zamperini reportedly died after a valiant struggle with pneumonia. Zamperini’s amazing life is the subject of Laura Hillenbrand’s best seller, “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.” (2010). It’s getting down to the wire for the 2014 Burbank Rose Parade float, “Lights… Camera… Action!” Volunteers are busy at the float construction and decoration site, 123 West Olive Avenue, getting the Media City entry ready for its debut in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The winner of the fantasy trophy for outstanding display of animation and imagination at the 124th Rose Parade on New Year’s Day has wrapped up a final showing in Burbank. Burbank’s float, “Deep Sea Adventures,” built by volunteers, drew crowds to the parking lot at Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue from January 3-7. This morning the float was moved to the auxiliary warehouse at the Burbank Water and Power site on Olive Avenue. Photo Gallery: Burbank float wins big at Rose Parade

Check out a winner up close. The Burbank float, “Deep Sea Adventures,” grabbed the judges attention and won the fantasy trophy at the 124th Rose Parade yesterday. “Deep Sea Adventures” will be on display in the Burbank Central Library parking lot, Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue, starting tomorrow January 3 at 9 a.m. Food trucks on site at lunch time. Burbank Rose Parade float 2013

The scramble is on to get those spectacular floats ready for the 124th Rose Parade in Pasadena on January 1, 2013. The theme this year is from the famous Dr. Seuss book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.” The City of Burbank’s official entry is called, “Deep Sea Adventures.” The idea/concept is from Richard Burrow of Mission Viejo and it won first place in the Burbank float 2013 design contest. Only a few more hours to view Burbank’s superb entry into the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade. The float has been on display in the parking lot across from the Burbank Central Library at Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue since Wednesday, January 4.  Today is the last day to see the float up close, before it is dismantled. “The Dream Machine,” about a boy’s wishful dreams, won the Mayor’s Trophy for most outstanding presentation nationally and internationally.
