Legendary artist Prince dies at 57

Today’s news that the Purple Prince of Pop and R& B has passed away, stunned and shocked many  of his fans, friends, and fellow musicians. Prince reportedly died at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota this morning at the age of 57. No cause of death was given. Remembering Joe Cocker: May 20, 1944 – December 22, 2014

Joe Cocker had some strange moves when he sang on stage, but that was okay. It’s his gritty voice and passionate singing that will be remembered most. The pop and blues singer passed away yesterday reportedly after a battle with lung cancer. He was 70. Cocker shot to fame during the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969. During his performance at that festival, Cocker put  his own spin on the  Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” and turned it into one of his signature songs.

Pop sensation, Lady Gaga, has made a new purchase in the Southland and the property includes what is known as a “batcave.” Gaga reportedly dropped $22.5 million for a large estate out in Malibu, according to Zillow. It sits on 6 acres across from Zuma Beach and has many of the typical amenities of a celebrity home including spectacular beachfront views, a wine cellar, and a home theater. The cast includes entertainer, Eddie Murphy, supermodel, Iman, Laker legend, Magic Johnson, and stars, the King of Pop.

Around the Southland: Rihanna, Pink, and Jodie Foster put homes up for sale

Rihanna has put her Pacific Palisades pad up for sale. The 10,000-square-foot, 7-bedroom, 8-bath ultra modern mansion with a Caribbean-influence was never home sweet home for the singer. The Grammy winner  moved into the gated estate back in December of 2012, within a few short months, “trespassers, stalkers, and burglars” were arrested at or near the property, according to the Trulia website. Pink to perform at the Oscars 2014

Pink has been added to the roster of performers for the 86th Academy Awards ceremony set for a week from this Sunday. It was not the showdown many had hoped for, still it turned into the highest rated event  ever on American TV . The Seattle Seahawks ran all over the Denver Broncos in a one-sided game  — final score 43-8. Grammys: Daft Punk, high ratings, and bloated commercial breaks

The French helmet-wearing duo, Daft Punk, are probably feeling pretty lucky today and for good reason. They walked away with some the biggest awards at the Grammys last night, including, Record of the Year for “Get Lucky,” Album of the Year for “Random Access Memories,” and for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Entertainers, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, have a new project together. The happily married twosome have signed on with Scholastic to published a children’s picture book, “Roc and Roe’s Twelve Days of Christmas,” featuring the couple’s twins Roc (Moroccan) and Roe (Monroe). “We are so excited to work with the Scholastic team on our Roc and Roe picture book and we can’t wait until this holiday season!” said Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey said in a news release. Now that the playoffs are over and the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos are headed to Super Bowl 2014, there is a lot of chatter on the Internet about other aspects of that big game. Katy Perry's Hollywood Hills home sold

Around the Southland: Singer Katy Perry sells Hollywood Hills mansion

Pop diva, Katy Perry, is really getting a fresh start this new year. Perry finally sold the Hollywood Hills mansion she bought with ex-husband comedian/actor, Russell Brand, according to the Zillow blog. The estate was on the market last April for $6.9 million — it finally sold for $5.5 million. Perry apparently wanted a cash sell — and that may have been one of the reasons for the difficulty in finding a buyer. More here.

Phil Everly of the rock duo Everly Brothers dies at 74

A member of the renown rock duo, Everly Brothers, has died in Burbank, according to the Los Angeles Times website. Phil Everly passed away at Providence Saint Joseph’s Medical Center yesterday, following a battle with lung disease. He was 74. His wife. Patti Everly, reportedly told the Times that he “fought long and hard” with the illness, which she blamed on a lifetime of cigarette smoking. Entertainment Bits: “Fast & Furious 6,” Rick Springfield sells a novel, and NBC’s relief concert for tornado victims

Box office bonanza “Fast & Furious 6 ” burned rubber all over the competition Memorial Day weekend. Not a whole lot of new moves in this sequel, but moviegoers did not care. They love this franchise. “Fast &  Furious 6”  took in $120 million for its debut in the U.S. The top six films helped generate more than $300 million at the domestic box office, beating the previous record for a Memorial Day weekend.
