Burbank pounded by first fall storm of 2012

Just before 2 p.m this afternoon, the first fall storm of the season rolled into Burbank with heavy rain, flashes of lightning, and crackling thunder. The high today only in the 60s. For the past few days, rain has been in the forecast and the skies were filled with dark threatening clouds this morning– still some were caught without umbrellas when the raindrops began falling. The rain forced most motorists to ease up off the gas pedal and that’s a good thing any time it happens. By 2:40 p.m. the... Read More →

A giant tree knocked down by the stormy weather causes havoc in a Burbank neighborhood

The first in yet another series of storms is rolling through Burbank this evening, increasing the concerns that more trees will topple. Several trees were knocked down by last weekend’s treacherous storm, one of the casualties, a graceful giant at Third Street and Bethany Road. The building manager, Ben Cantu, says the huge stone pine took the fall at about 4:45 p.m., last Sunday, March 20. Cantu believes the storm was only partly to blame: “… one of the most beautiful trees in Burbank fell victim to high winds and top heavy... Freaky weather: sunshine, rain, and hail in Burbank

A brief period of sunshine gave way to more dark clouds, then rain, and just before noon, hail in Burbank!  The hard pebbles pounded the roof of my house and created white patches of quickly melting ice on the ground in the hillside area. The weather is freaky out there today. Don’t get faked out by a little sunshine —  keep that umbrella handy.

A stormy Saturday in the Southland

Surprise, we’re getting dumped on by another winter storm. The cloudy skies let loose with a prelude of thunder and drizzle, which soon erupted into a steady rain in Burbank shortly after 10 a.m. This is a cold rainstorm. The high might reach 60 in Media City, but I doubt it. The rain is expected to hang around through tonight. The prediction is for cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance of rain tomorrow. Hopefully, it will not rain on Sunday’s Oscar festivities.
