Temperatures starting to sizzle in Burbank

Temperatures are starting to sizzle in Burbank and throughout the Southland today. By 10 a.m. this morning, it was 81 degrees in the Media City. Since then, the temperature has climbed into the 90s.  At 2 p.m, it’s 87 in West Hollywood, 82 at Venice Beach, and nearing 100 in Lancaster. The hot temperatures are expected to linger through next week. A little slow in coming, but summer has apparently arrived in SoCal.

Then again,  the problem with lawn brown patches can be attributed to fungal/bacteria diseases, which also attack the... Read More →

Garden Guru: Summer plant maintenance

Spring is the most popular time for gardeners to flock to their favourite nursery to shop for their gardens, raised bed, and hanging basket gardening. Here comes the summer heat and those spring annuals are getting a little “tired” looking and need a boost of care. Wait, just to clarify. Annual bedding plants(for instance petunias, marigolds, cosmos, pansies,  and snapdragons ), start from seed and last for a year. As opposed to perennials like (geraniums, dusty miller, agapanthus, daylilies, etc. will last three years or more). Spring planted annuals have finished their spring blooming... Read More →

Jean Youn: The feel of summer

By chance, have you ever dipped your feet in a small creek in the mountains? Korea, where I grew up, has a lot of small mountains all over its land. During hot summer days, people frequently go up to the mountains and counter the heat by dipping their feet in the creeks. Not just the clear and cold water of the creek, but also the sound of stream makes them forget the sweltering heat. By the way, a stream makes a more pleasant and fresh sound if it flows in... Jean Youn: Why breathing is the best exercise

What kind of exercise do you do? Rather, what kind of exercise do you enjoy doing? It may be different depending on your age and inclination. For some, just to stroll about through the neighborhood is regarded as an exercise. Some people offer “breathing exercise” for an answer jokingly. As a matter of a fact, the most important one among the exercises is really breathing exercise. If we stop breathing exercise, simply we cannot do any other exercise. The reason why breathing is not called an exercise... Read More →
