Six victims in the Covina Christmas Eve massacre are identified

Ken Hively/Los Angeles Times  The body of the Santa shooter, 45-year-old Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, is removed from a Sylmar home on Christmas Day.   The grim task of identifying some of the victims of that vicious Christmas Eve attack in Covina has been completed. Killer Santa was gunning for more victims

Barbara Davidson/Los Angeles Times A firefighter cleans up debris on Christmas Day at the gutted Covina home where a gunman killed nine people before taking his own life.   Bruce Jeffrey Pardo apparently had a hit list when he stormed the Covina home of his ex-in-laws on Christmas Eve dressed in a Santa costume. Police are saying now that Pardo, who gunned down nine people at the holiday party and then torched the home, had planned to take out his 72-year-old mother and his ex-wife’s attorney as well. Fire crews gain ground on stubborn Southland wildfires

  Anne Cusack / Los Angeles Times In the fire-damaged Oakridge Mobile Home Park hundreds of homes were destroyed, but some survived. “We have found no human remains at this point.” That was the conclusion today from a Los Angeles County Coroner official about the search for victims at the fire-ravaged Oakridge Mobile Home Park in Sylmar. Fire, wind, and danger in the Southland

Ho / Los Angeles Times The firestorm in Sylmar A fire emergency in the San Fernando Valley today. The main wildfire erupted in the foothills above Veterans Memorial Park in Sylmar last night around 10:30 p.m. Wicked Santa Ana winds of 70 miles an hour whipped the flames into a roaring firestorm. 2,600 to 3,000 acres have been blackened. At least 200 homes have been destroyed and 10,000 people have been evacuated.
