Writer/director/actor Tyler Perry is still on an incredible roll at the Box Office. This weekend his latest film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” left the competition in the dust. This is the fifth Perry film in the past five years to debut at the top of the Box Office. Singer Gladys Knight to co-star in Tyler Perry’s new movie

Entertainer Gladys Knight has one of the most distinctive voices in the music industry today. Knight is lending her voice and acting talent to the new Tyler Perry flick, “I Can Do Bad All by Myself.” According to The Hollywood Reporter website, Knight will play a neighborhood matriarch who also sings at a local church where Perry’s Madea character attends. Two more Tyler Perry movie projects on the fast track

Super successful filmmaker Tyler Perry ‘s latest film is on top of the Box Office, but that’s not slowing his pace. Today distributor Lionsgate announced it has acquired the rights to two more Perry movies, according to Variety. One film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” is based on a Perry play and stars Oscar-nominated actress, Taraji P. Tyler Perry’s “Madea” kills the competition at the Box Office

Critics slammed it, but movie fans packed the theaters this weekend to see, “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.”  The new over-the-top comedy racked up a huge $41 million to easily become the number one film in the country.  Variety reports that this is the seventh Perry film distributed by Lionsgate. So far those films have grossed $300 million at the domestic Box Office. Writers dispute settled at Tyler Perry Studios

Terence Long/WGA –  Writers picket Tyler Perry Studios, October 4, 2008   Super-successful independent producer and now studio owner, Tyler Perry, has reached an agreement with the Writers Guild of America-West to allow his writers to work under a WGA contract. The settlement was reached with the aid of the NAACP-Hollywood Bureau and was announced on the WGA-West website Wednesday, November 26. Frances McDormand  At the top of the box office this past weekend, “Burn After Reading,” a dark comedy by Ethan and Joel Coen. The film debuted with an estimated $19.4 million. Tyler Perry signs a new three-year first-look deal with Lionsgate for at least three more films. Lionsgate has distributed five Perry films starting with “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” in 2005.
