Disney inside trader sentenced to prison

A San Francisco man out to make a quick profit is now facing a prison sentence for insider trading involving the Disney deal to buy Marvel Entertainment. Disney scooped up Marvel back in 2009 for $4 billion. Last April, Toby G. Scammell pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud stemming from his purchase pf more than 600 call options of Marvel stock for $5,465,  just before Disney bought Marvel, according to San Fernando Valley Business Journal. Disney buys Maker Studios for $500 million

Disney announced today it’s shelling out $500 million for the YouTube Network, Maker Studios. If certain performance targets are met the deal gets sweeten by $450 million. Not bad for a company that started back in 2009. Disney makes major donation to aid typhoon victims in the Philippines as death toll rises

Disney makes a big commitment to help typhoon victims in the Philippines, while new figures are out today on the human toll of that disaster. The government in the Philippines has upped the death toll from 4-to-6,000 and the number of missing to nearly 1,800. Typhoon Haiyan, considered one of the most powerful storms to ever make land, flattened or damaged the homes of 16 million people when it struck on November 8. Disney takes a hit from “The Lone Ranger” flop

“The Lone Ranger” seriously under-performed movie theaters and that is going to cost Disney dearly. Since opening in the U.S. on July third, the western has made only $87 million, added to the global take — the total is $175 million.
