Updated: Pedestrian killed in fatal collision in front of Disney Studios

A fatal collision in front of the Walt Disney Studios on West Alameda Avenue in Burbank this morning, left one person dead. The fatality was a pedestrian. The tragic accident occurred just after 9 a.m. “A female adult was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at Alameda Ave. and Lincoln St.  Two male adult occupants from that vehicle have been detained by police. Christmas is coming and so are those holiday movies. The poster for Disney’s “Into the Woods” is out. This is the first poster for the Stephen Sondheim musical, according to The Disney Blog. Disney puts new “Beauty and the Beast” film on fast track

Disney is dusting off another classic and preparing to give it the big screen treatment again. Director Bill Condon has been brought on board to direct a live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast,” according to Variety. There will probably be some unexpected twists and reinvention to the classic in this new movie adaptation. Lately, Disney has been very successful in putting a new spin on an old story. New trailer for Disney’s “Maleficent”

Disney released the third trailer for its upcoming animation, “Maleficent,”today . The movie centers on the dark side of the classic fairytale, “Sleeping Beauty.” Angelina Jolie plays the baddy named “Maleficent” and this her story of how her pure heart got turned to stone and she became the most feared creature around. “Maleficent” opens in theaters May 30, 2014.

Disney expansion project clears major hurdle

Another major studio expansion project is working its way through the political process. Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch revamp was approved by the Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission yesterday. Last April, NBCUniversal got the go ahead from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for its  $1.6 billion 25-year Evolution Plan, which the studio says will generate 30,000 jobs. Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch expansion now goes to the Sups for their approval. Golden Oak Ranch is in Santa Clarita and Disney wants to develop 58 acres off Placerita Canyon... Read More →

Not one but two dry-ice blasts at Disneyland

  Disneyland employee/soft drink vendor, 22-year-old Christian Barnes, reportedly pleaded not guilty to possessing a destructive device in a public place. Barnes was arraigned in Orange County Superior Court yesterday and is due back in court next Friday, June 7, for a pretrial hearing. During the court proceeding on Thursday prosecutors revealed, Barnes is the suspect in not one but two  dry-ice explosions in the Anaheim theme park near the Toontown attraction last Tuesday. Employee arrested in Disneyland explosion

  A Disney employee reportedly is being held on a $1 million dollars bail today in connection with that dry-ice explosion near Mickey’s Toontown attraction, in the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim late yesterday. The dry-ice was apparently inside a bottle, which was tossed into a trash can. The blast was described as being small — no damages nor injuries. Flap over “Iron Man 3” tickets Make no mistake about it, the dispute involving Disney and some of the top theater chains is about money. Big Money. Several chains, including the AMC, are refusing to offer advance tickets for “Iron Man 3,” one of the major releases of the year. Disney wants to re-negotiate it’s deal with these theaters. Netflix, the popular online movie service, has scored a huge deal with the Walt Disney Company. In a news release today, Disney announced a “… new multi-year licensing agreement that will make Netflix the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run live-action and animated feature films from The Walt Disney Studios.”  The deal begins with 2013 direct-to-video releases and 2016 big screen feature films. “Disney and Netflix have shared a long and mutually beneficial relationship and this deal will bring to our... Walt Disney Studios has launched a special exhibit to promote director Tim Burton’s upcoming stop-motion animated feature film, “Frankenweenie.” The Art of “Frankenweenie” Exhibition is set to premiere in Barcelona, Spain, at CineEurope, June 18-21, and in the U.S. at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, California, July 11-15, according to a PRNewswire release. During the tour, the exhibition will be making stops in seven countries. A sequel to “Marvel’s The Avengers” in the works

Walt Disney Studio wasted no time in greenlighting a sequel to its mega-hit, “Marvel’s The Avengers.” Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed today what most suspected, that there will be a second teaming of “The Avengers” for the big screen. Protesters arrested at the Walt Disney lot in Burbank

Two protesters, dressed as Minnie and Mickey Mouse, chained themselves to a gate at the Walt Disney Studios today, according to the Los Angeles Times. The costumed activists reportedly were protesting because of a fiber in Disney’s children’s books, which they say is from endangered Indonesian rain forests.
