Warner Bros. CEO admits layoffs are coming

Apparently no one’s job is safe at Warner Bros. A lot of tension and frayed nerves there as the employees wait to see who will get the axe.  In an office memo yesterday, CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed reports that layoffs are coming. Tsujihara did not say how many jobs would be cut, but said the axe will fall  “across the Studio. ” Warner, based in Burbank,  has somewhere around 8, 000 employees globally. Web Buzz: Buyouts and layoffs at Warner Bros.

  There’s chatter on the Internet about buyouts and layoffs at Warner Bros. First reported on Bloomberg  yesterday, buyouts have already begun in the division that includes CNN and TBS. Variety says “500 to 600” employees have received those offers.  However, more are coming for other parts of the Burbank-based company and top brass “may fire staff if too few employees take the offer,” according to the Bloomberg sources. Warner Bros. and Harry Potter creator teaming up again

Warner Bros is hooking up with bestselling author/Harry Potter creator, J.K. Rowling. on a new film series. Talk of the Town: Uproar over the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman

  Actor Ben Affleck played a superhero on the big screen once, and many movie fans don’t want to see that happen again. Affleck played a blind Marvel comic hero in “Daredevil,” which opened Valentine’s Day 2003.  The film was pretty much a dud. It cost around $78 million and to date, has made only $102 million. Warner Bros. announces Superman/Batman film is on fast track

  Get ready for an unprecedented double dose of superhero power on the big screen. Warner Bros. announced yesterday the sequel for their super-successful “Man of Steel” will involve both Superman and Batman! “Man of Steel” director, Zack Snyder, is at the helm of the sequel, which is apparently in pre-production and has a scheduled release date of summer 2015. “Man of Steel” soars into the record books

  “Man of Steel” may not have thrilled a lot of the reviewers, but the new superhero flick is getting a lot of love from movie fans. In its debut last weekend, “Man of Steel,” shot right into the record books with the best June opening ever and the second best first weekend of 2013, right behind “Iron Man 3.” “Man of Steel” grabbed the number spot with $116.6 million from Friday to Sunday. Warner Bros. has worked out a movie deal with Archie Comics, according to an exclusive report on Deadline.com. Volunteers plant a community garden in Burbank

Volunteers used people power and creativity to get a new community garden planted in Burbank yesterday.  The garden is the love project of Principal Chris Krohn and her students at Burbank Community Day School at 223 East Santa Anita Avenue. The students, grades 7 – 12, are at risk kids looking for a second chance. Krohn says it all started last year with a small garden she described as “an eyesore.”  The students came up with five plans to turn the tiny garden and the surrounding weeds into a productive community garden.
