The Burbank City Council conducted its annual reorganization meeting last Monday, May 2,  at City Hall. The meeting was pretty routine, except for a few moments that stood out; such as the emotional walk down memory lane for outgoing Mayor Bob Frutos and a tense drama during the selection of vice mayor, which had many on the edge of their seats. Ex-Burbank Police official in hot water over email jokes

Tom Angel got quite a send off from Burbank Police and city officials last June, when he made the move from Deputy Chief back to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department where he retired six years ago. Angel took over as Chief of Staff  at LASD. Back in 2010, Angel joined the Burbank PD, at the request of Chief LaChasse. Ex-Burbank school employee arraigned on sex charges

The bail for former Burbank school employee, Jose Antonio Banuelos Jr., has been raised to $1 million. It happened yesterday in a Burbank court where Banuelos was arraigned. Last Tuesday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office filed six sex felonies against 28 year-old Banuelos, including two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Banuelos was arrested last Friday after a 17 year-old John Burroughs female student reportedly told Burbank Police about their sexual relationship. ex-Burbank school coach arrested for sex with a minor

For the third time in 10 months, an employee or former employee of a high school in Burbank has been arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with a minor. The latest arrest took place yesterday. Burbank Police say Jose Banuelos Jr., an assistant baseball coach at John Burroughs High School and part-time employee of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department, was taken into custody in the parking lot of Ralph’s supermarket 2600 West Victory Boulevard. Burbank PD needs help in finding sexual assault suspect

Burbank Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a sexual assault suspect who allegedly groped a 12 year-old girl, at the Target in the Burbank Empire Center, earlier this month. The alleged attack occurred on Sunday, December 13, around 4:15 p.m. The girl was” with her mother, when the suspect walked up to her and squeezed her buttocks.  The suspect then walked to the exit and left the store.  No vehicle was seen, ” according to a Burbank PD news release. Envelope with suspicious powder mailed to Burbank Police

Some drama at Burbank Police headquarters in Downtown Burbank today. An employee opened an envelope addressed to the department at around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon and “noticed a white powder inside,” according to a news release. The administrative offices of the BPD building were cordoned off and the Burbank Fire Department reportedly responded with a hazmat team. A Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department hazmat team rolled to the scene as well. Today Burbank Police released photos in connection with a theft at Bret Harte Elementary School  3200 Jeffries Avenue. The suspect described as an African-American female, 30-40, reportedly appeared on the school grounds two weeks ago, Wednesday, October 7, between 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.”Once on campus, the suspect walked into an unoccupied classroom. A DUI checkpoint in Burbank resulted in three arrests as well as several citations and warnings. The Burbank PD Traffic Bureau set up the checkpoint at Olive Avenue and Lake Street last night. AT&T has apologized to Burbank customers for a phone issue last week, which prompted an unusual advisory from the Burbank Police Department last Thursday: “AT&T has notified BPD that callers to 911 from 847 and 565 phone number prefixes may not reach police or fire due to damaged underground phone lines. In Burbank, call 818 238 3000 for police and 818 956-4800 for paramedic/fire services. The Sevan Mini Market on North San Fernando Boulevard in Burbank is boarded up today after a robbery and fire last night. As reported on Media City Groove, the market was robbed by several suspects at around 9 p.m., at least one of them was armed. Then, a fire broke out. An armed robbery and fire at the Sevan Mini Market is under investigation today by both the Burbank Police and Fire Departments. The market at 1516 North San Fernando Boulevard was on fire when police officers arrived on the scene last night at around 8:50 p.m. “The officers made contact with the victim, who reported he’d been robbed by at least three suspects, with one or more being armed with a firearm,” said Sergeant Claudio Losacco in a news release. More changes in the Burbank Police Department. The word is Captain Mike Albanese has been promoted to deputy chief. The position opened up last month, after Tom Angel took the job of chief of staff at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Albanese has been a key member of Chief Scott Lachasse’s leadership group since his arrival at the BPD in 2010.
