The final box office numbers came out today for the long Presidents Day weekend, and “The Lego Movie” won by a landside. The computer animated flick earned $62.4 million over the four-day weekend. It’s the number one movie in the U.S. for the second straight week. The total domestic take for this family comedy, based on a line of construction toys — $143 million!
Several challengers, all 80s remakes, hit theaters last week — the strongest, “About Last Night.” The urban romantic comedy debut with $27.8 million. Kevin Hart leads a cast that includes, Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, and Joy Bryant.
Hart is one of the hottest actor/comedians right now. Hart co-stars with Ice Cube in “Ride Along,” which has made a huge $117 million since it opened five weeks ago. The action comedy had a modest budget of $25 million. Also, Hart starred in the hit relationship comedy, “Think Like A Man,”(2012) with Ealy and Hall. All three will be seen this June in the sequel, “Think Like A Man too” (2014).
In third place at the box office, the reboot of “RoboCop,” with $25 million, followed by “The Monuments Men” at$17,9 million and rounding out the top five, another remake, “Endless Love” debuted with $14.4 million.
