Rose Parade float winner on display in Burbank today. “Rise Up” won the 2020 Leishman Public Spirit Award for the most outstanding floral presentation from a non-commercial float builder in the 131st Tournament of Roses Parade, on Wednesday, January 1. The Burbank Channel was honored at the 68th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards bash over the weekend. The channel is owned by the City f Burbank. Last Saturday, it was recognized with an Emmy in the information category for a video called, “Drawing Power of Burbank.”  The ceremony was held at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in North Hollywood. The City of Burbank ‘s television channel is celebrating winning three Golden Mike awards in Division “B,” stations with 49 or fewer staff members.  It happened  at the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California’s (RTNA) 65th annual awards ceremony in Universal City last Saturday. Spectators get close up view of award-winning Burbank Rose float

If you want to get a close up look at the 2015 award-winning Burbank Rose Parade float, you need do it pretty soon. “Jungle Rescue”  picked up the Past President’s Award on New Year’s Day  for most creative design and use of both floral and non-floral materials. Hundreds of volunteers spent a lot of hours working on the float. Among them, 8 year-old Andrew Podbelski who was at the float viewing at Glenoaks Boulevard and  Olive Avenue yesterday. Movers and Shapers Awards Luncheon at The Castaway

Woodbury University is honoring Raul R. Porto, Jr. of the very successful Porto’s Bakery and the Burbank Chamber of Commerce with this year’s Movers & Shapers Awards. The honor is bestowed for outstanding service to the community. The awards will be presented at a luncheon at The Castaway.

Local Olympian Kate Hansen honored in Sacramento

Southland 2014 Olympian, Kate Hansen, was honored during the “Woman of the Year”  awards ceremony in the Assembly Chambers of the State Capitol in Sacramento yesterday. Hansen was among 80 recipients who were recognized for making  “… a great contribution to California and who have inspired women and girls in California and beyond,” according to a news release. Another big win for Oscar-contender, “12 Years a Slave.” The brutal depiction of slavery in America won the top honor of outstanding motion picture of 2013 at the 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Pink has been added to the roster of performers for the 86th Academy Awards ceremony set for a week from this Sunday. The French helmet-wearing duo, Daft Punk, are probably feeling pretty lucky today and for good reason.
