Consumers rate Costco top grocery store in the West

Costco is the top go to grocery store in the Western States for most consumers, according to a the results of a Harris Poll EquiTrend study released today. Back in January of this year,  41,806 consumers, 15 an older, reportedly were quizzed on 40 randomly selected grocery brands. The study examined three key factors: Familiarity, quality, and purchase consideration in four regions of the country. In the West, Costco ranked number one. Valentine’s Day is shaping up to be a money maker for florists if what I discovered at a couple of Burbank florists is any indicator. When I dropped by Samuel’s Florist on West Olive Avenue last Saturday, owner/floral designer, Donna Smith, was busy creating Valentine’s Day arrangements with shop floral designer, Karla Comayagua. Smith is surprised at how many customers have come in or contacted her shop early to place their Valentine’s Day orders. Gas prices heading up for Labor Day weekend, consumers blame oil companies

Gasoline prices are on a roll again — upward!  As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, prices at the pumps continue to creep up. Today the national average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.75, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. As usual, prices are higher in California.  Today the state and the Los Angeles/Long Beach (including Burbank) area average for a gallon of that grade of gas is $4.13. Consumers cutting back due to high gas prices

Gasoline prices at the pump have come down, but not by much. The average price of a gallon of regular gas nationwide today is $3.82 — a month ago, it was $3.91 , according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.  Locally, in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area, the average for regular is quite a bit higher than the national average, $4.19 — that’s a drop of a few pennies from $4.23 a month ago.  Are Zhu Zhu pets safe? Zhu Zhu pets, the robotic hamsters that talk and move, are at the top of a lot of wish lists this holiday season. Recently, a California-based consumer watchdog group’s website reportedly sparked a controversy when it claimed there is a potentially harmful level of metal in the Mr. Squiggles model.
