Traffic alert as new IKEA store opens in Burbank today

Burbank Police sent out a traffic alert about the opening of the new IKEA in the Media City today. The 456,000 square foot super-mega store is nearly twice the size of the old IKEA at the Burbank Town Center. On this Labor Day weekend, President Barack Obama is continuing to hammer home his point that it’s time for Congress to raise the minimum wage. Republicans have repeatedly blocked attempts to raise the federal minimum wage gradually from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. In his weekly address, President Obama insisted raising the minimum wage will help more than 20 million struggling Americans make ends meet and grow the economy. IKEA Burbank hourly workers to get a raise as part of new company policy

Many of the more than 300 employees at the IKEA in Burbank will be getting a raise as part of a new company policy.Yesterday, the Swedish furniture giant announced it will adopt a new minimum hourly wage structure for its U.S. hourly retail workers. Beginning in January of next year, the minimum average hourly wage will jump 17 percent to an average of $10.76 an hour. IKEA moving forward with new store in Burbank

While the debate continues over the future and price tag for the present IKEA Burbank site, the Swedish home furnishing retailer is moving forward with plans to build another store in B-town.
