Flash mob car crowds expected to invade Burbank today

A flash mob car crowd gathers near the Krispy Kreme donut outlet, 1521 North Victory Place, in Burbank’s Empire Center. That invasion has happened before and despite warnings from the Burbank Police Department and threats of legal action from Burbank City Attorney, Amy Albano, the custom car enthusiasts are apparently planning on returning to the Media City this evening. Is Burbank a better place to live than Seattle, San Diego or even Boston? You might get some arguments from some folks who live in those other cities — but not from Niche, an online ranking and review website. New website lists salaries and pensions of CA public employees

The new website Transparent California is a real eye opener for taxpayers. The salaries and pensions of many of the city, county, and state employees in the Golden State for 2011 and 2012 are listed.  Some are not on the site for various reasons. Glendale, Newport Beach, Inglewood, and City of Industry are “refusing to produce” the required data, according to the site. The Burbank Police Department has a new home on the Internet. Yesterday, a news release announced the launch of the BPD’s new website www.burbankpd.org .Two years in development, the site is packed with information in a user friendly format. Burbank Northwest Library: Officially open for business today

    Back in business! The Northwest Branch of the Burbank Library officially reopened to the public today. As reported here earlier here, the branch at 3323 West Victory Boulevard was closed last August for earthquake retrofitting, up grades, and general renovations. Warner Bros. announces Superman/Batman film is on fast track

  Get ready for an unprecedented double dose of superhero power on the big screen. Warner Bros. announced yesterday the sequel for their super-successful “Man of Steel” will involve both Superman and Batman! “Man of Steel” director, Zack Snyder, is at the helm of the sequel, which is apparently in pre-production and has a scheduled release date of summer 2015. As the final numbers for the weekend show, “Despicable Me 2” is still king of the domestic box office. The new big budget sci-fic actioner, “Pacific Rim” had a fan base and good reviews, but still lost steam before the weekend was over. ‘Pacific Rim”had to settle for third, behind the poorly reviewed “Grown Ups 2.” What happened? “Grown Ups 2” opens with poor reviews and better than expected performance

“Grown Ups 2” is apparently not for the mature nor anyone looking for anything but a weak story filled with bad jokes. The film is getting slammed by many reviewers including Claudia Puig over on USA Today. The first “Grown Ups” earned $162 million at the box office back in 2010. Despite the bad reviews, apparently a lot of moviegoers still want to see the sequel. Weekend box office: Monsters are beating the Zombies

  The weekend box office is all about the monsters and the zombies. The battle is between the new Disney animation, “Monsters University” and Brad Pitt’s new zombie action flick, “World War Z.” And the monsters are winning. The weekend numbers are estimates today, but “Monsters University” appears to be headed to the top spot with around $82 million verses “World War Z” debut of $66 million. Disney expansion project clears major hurdle

Another major studio expansion project is working its way through the political process. Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch revamp was approved by the Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission yesterday. Last April, NBCUniversal got the go ahead from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for its  $1.6 billion 25-year Evolution Plan, which the studio says will generate 30,000 jobs. Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch expansion now goes to the Sups for their approval. Golden Oak Ranch is in Santa Clarita and Disney wants to develop 58 acres off Placerita Canyon... Read More →

Two more sequels for “The Amazing Spider-Man”

Sony Pictures made a big announcement  today about one of its biggest franchises, Spider-Man. Last year, “The Amazing Spider-Man” earned more than $750 million worldwide. A sequel is in  production in New York right now and is due out next May. A news release from Sony Pictures revealed the dates for two more sequels in June 2016 and May 2018. Details on Deadline.

“Man of Steel” hottest movie ticket this weekend

  The new Superman movie lands in U.S. theaters tomorrow and it’s the hottest ticket this weekend. “Man of Steel” advance ticket sells were soaring high — in the number one spot — as of last Tuesday at Fandango, the popular movie site on the web.   UPDATED: Sunday, June 9, 2013 3:38 p.m.  A fifth shooting spree victim has died bringing the total to six dead. Details here.   The FBI has joined the investigation into that deadly shooting rampage in the Southland coastal community of Santa Monica yesterday. Box office: “Fast & Furious 6” still king, Will Smith’s new film fizzles

Moviegoers are still hot for the fast cars and action of “Fast & Furious 6.” The sequel held onto the number spot at the domestic box office over the weekend leaving two new films eating its dust. “Fast & Furious 6” earned an estimated $34.5 million pushing its two week domestic total to around $170 million. Southwest Airlines scores high in new study

When it comes to customer satisfaction, Southwest Airlines is flying high. The airlines, a frequent flyer out of  Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport, ranked second only to JetBlue  Airways for low cost carriers in the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2013 North America Airline Satisfaction study. Out of a total points of 1,000, JetBlue led the list of low-cost carriers with 787, followed by Southwest with 770 points.
